Beginner Steps to Applying Makeup

Beginner Steps to Applying Makeup

Lets begin

Beginner Steps to Applying Makeup
Dubai Makeup School
1. Prep Your Skin

Beginner Steps to Applying Makeup Before you even reach for makeup, it’s crucial that you prep your skin with skincare. “Always cleanse and moisturize for your skin type,” “Makeup will never lay properly without it.” When your skin isn’t properly prepped, you won’t be able to achieve an even flawless finish. Instead, your foundation will look heavy and gravitate toward the dry parts of your complexion while your concealer gets cake-y.

2. Apply Primer

Not all primers are created equal, so to achieve the best results, it’s best to select the right primer for your skin type. If you need help picking the perfect primer. If you use a heavy hand, the primer will start to ball or pill (not the look we’re going for). Instead, focus a thin coat on your forehead, cheeks, and chin. “This will allow it to blur and mattify in these areas (a.k.a. the T-zone), which are usually the areas that are the oiliest.”

3. Grab Your Foundation and Concealer

Now that your skin is prepped and primed, you can start applying your makeup. While typically you should start with foundation first and then concealer, there are certain instances where you’ll want to reach for concealer first.

Dab a few dots of foundation on your T-zone, focusing on your forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin. Next, use a foundation brush to blend it in. While you can also certainly use a makeup sponge or even your fingers, using a foundation brush is quick and easy, making it a great option for beginners (and anyone who’s looking to simplify their makeup routine). To achieve a natural finish, start with a small amount of product and blend up and out.

Now that your foundation is applied, you’re ready to apply concealer. Focus on any areas you want to conceal: under the eyes, around the nostrils, and any blemishes or dark spots. When it comes to covering up, it’s important to dab, never drag.

Spot apply on blemishes and lightly dab, using either your ring finger, a concealer brush, or sponge. To conceal under the eyes, draw two inverted triangles under your eyes and blend the edges into your foundation by lightly dabbing. Not only is the upside-down triangle technique pretty foolproof, but it also brightens up the entire face, contributing to a gorgeous glow.

4. Set Your Base

Swipe a brush or velvet puff into your setting powder, and tap it to remove any excess. You want to ensure it’s evenly covered before you apply it to your complexion. Next, press it into your face to ensure you don’t move your makeup around in the application process. Focus on areas that often seem to need a touch-up throughout the day (typically the T-zone). If you have a special occasion ahead of you or you just want to create a more airbrushed finish, you can also “bake” your makeup.

5. Create Dimension

Contour comes in powder, liquid, and cream formulas, with powder being the most foolproof, making it ideal for beginners. Using an angled brush, focus on the areas you want to create dimension. Next, place contour under the cheekbones, around your hairline, and on the sides of your nose.

When it comes time to apply highlighter, focus on the “high” points of your face that the sun would naturally hit. “Adding highlighter above cheekbones, by the eyebrow arch, down the bridge of the nose and blending very well will give the most realistic dimension,” While highlighter comes in a variety of forms, a powder highlighter is easiest to use if you’re a beginner. To apply, dip your brush in the powder and tap it to remove excess powder. Next, lightly glide it over the high points mentioned above.

6. Add Back Some Color

When selecting the right bronzer, be sure not to go more than a shade or two darker than your regular complexion. Once you have selected your shade, you’re ready to begin bronzing. Using a fluffy brush, blend bronzer around your hairline, on your cheekbones, and on your jawline. The easiest way to remember this? Just think of the number three. For a flawless application, draw a number three on your face, starting at your hairline and then continuing down to your cheekbones before rounding it out under your jawline. Blend in circular, sweeping motions for a flawless finish, and dust some on the bridge of your nose to complete your sun-kissed glow.

When it comes to blush, it’s best to select a hue that brings out your skin’s natural undertone. Next, using a brush, apply blush to the apples of your cheeks to create a subtle, natural-looking flush, moving your brush in circular motions to blend as you go. If you’re unsure where the apples of your cheeks lie, simply smile!

7. Focus on Your Eye Makeup

When it comes time to apply eye makeup, the choice is really up to you. Do you want to create a natural makeup look for the day? A smoky eye for date night? Do you feel like trying your hand at the edgy negative space liner for drinks with friends? Depending on where you’re headed and what you plan on wearing, you can tailor your eye makeup to match your mood. Rely on your eyeshadow, eyeliner, and mascara to create the perfect glam.

Once you’ve applied your eyeshadow, you can move on to your eyeliner.

Brows deserve attention all on their own. You can either make your brows look fuller or enhance your natural shape using a variety of products, like brow pencils, powders, or gels. If you aren’t sure which product is right for you, stick to these guidelines: Use a pencil for the most natural-looking approach that mimics your real hair. Use a brow powder if you want to fill in sparse spots. And finally, whip out the brow gel when you need to keep unruly brows in place.

8. Swipe on Your Lip Products

If using a lip primer, prep lips before you begin. Next, use your lip liner to outline your mouth. This is where you can also contour and create the illusion of a larger pout by simply lining slightly over your lips. Next, fill in your lips with your liner. Use this as an outline and apply your lipstick.

With these expert tips, the right products, and a little practice you’re ready to take your makeup routine to the next level.

SPECIAL EFFECTS MAKEUP

 SPECIAL EFFECTS MAKEUP

THEORY AND PICTURES

Prosthetic makeup (also called Special make-up effects and FX prosthesis) is the process of using prosthetic sculpting, moulding and casting techniques to create advanced cosmetic effects.

Prosthetic makeup revolutionise by John Chambers in such lms as Planet of the Apes and Dick Smith in Little Big Man.

TECHNIQUE

The process of creating a prosthetic appliance begins with life casting, the process of taking a mould of a body part (often the face) to use as a base for sculpting the prosthetic.

Life cast moulds made from prosthetic alginate or more recently, from skin-safe silicone rubber.

This initial mould is relatively weak and exible. A hard mother mould typically made by plaster or breglass bandages is creating overtop the initial mould to provide support.

Once a negative mould has been create, it is promptly led with gypsum cement, most commonly a brand called “Ultracal-30”, to make a “positive” mould. The form of prosthetic sculpted in clay on top of the positive.

The edges of the clay should made thin as possible, for the clay is stand-in for what will eventually prosthetic piece.

Along the edges of mould,

“keys” or mould points sculpted or carved into the life cast, make sure the two pieces of the mould will together correctly.

Once sculpting is complete, a second mould made

This gives two or more pieces of a mould a positive of the face,

and one or more negative mould pieces of the face with prosthetic sculpted in.

All clay carefully remove and prosthetic material cast into mould cavity.

The prosthetic material can be foam latex, gelatine, silicone or other similar materials. The prosthetic is cure within two part mould creating beginning of a makeup effect.

One of the hardest parts of prosthetic make-up is keeping the edges as thin as possible. They should be tissue thin so they are easy to blend and cover giving a flawless look.

The use of prosthetic makeup create wounds or trauma is called moulage.

its is used by the military and medical schools to educate and lessen psychological trauma when exposed to the real thing.

Ways to apply liquid foundation

Ways to apply liquid foundation

Ways to apply liquid foundation, When applied correctly, liquid foundation can create a beautiful, dewy finish that doesn’t look like makeup at all! Liquid foundation can be little tricky to apply at first, but with a bit of practice, you can achieve flawless-looking skin in a matter of minutes. This article will teach you three different ways to apply liquid foundation. Fingers work best if you want a lighter more natural coverage. Use a sponge or foundation brush to achieve a fuller coverage and create a glam, camera-ready finish.

Cleanse and moisturise your face

Makeup should always be applied to a clean canvas. Wash your face using your normal cleanser and pat dry. If you have dry skin, apply a moisturiser and wait a few minutes before applying foundation to give the moisturiser a chance to work.

  • If you are in a hurry or have applied too much moisturiser, blot your face with a tissue to remove excess moisturiser before applying foundation.

Pour a dime-sized amount of foundation onto your palette of choice

You can either use the back of your hand, a small dish, or even a folded up napkin. Don’t pour out too much. You can always add more later.

Dip your fingertips into the foundation, and begin to dab it onto your face

Start with two dabs on your forehead, two on each cheek, one on your nose, and one on your chin. A little goes a long way with liquid foundation, and you can always add more to areas that need additional coverage.

tumblr_inline_nut17991T61txoi6x_500

Use your fingertips to blend the foundation into your skin

Use either a patting/tapping motion with just the pads of your fingers, or make small, light circles with your fingertips. Begin with the areas that tend to have the most uneven skin tone (nose, cheeks, and forehead for most people) and work out from there.

  • Think about blending the foundation lightly, not rubbing it in, and definitely not “slathering” it on.
  • If you need more coverage, add more foundation to your face a dab at a time.

fingertips

Blend the edges

Blend your foundation carefully into your jawline, hairline, and around your ears to avoid leaving distinct lines.

  • If you have a sponge, use it to blend the foundation at your jawline using short downward strokes.
  • If you notice a distinct color change at the jawline, you may need a different shade of foundation.

article-1210757-04768DDB000005DC-355_306x275-2

Tip of the day: for a moisturised dewy look apply the liquid foundation with a wet sponge. In this case you can blend your foundation perfectly in the skin and the result will be natural and flawless.

Last Day of Classes

Last day is always the hardest yet fulfilling day of the courses. The students were tasked to do an Instagram Glamour inspired Makeup with a twist.  As their last photoshoot, they did their best to create their final look as impeccable as possible.

Choosing an inspiration online for their last look was a daunting task but they were able to pull it off. Checking popular ‘makeup gurus’ online made them feel confident about doing their task.

Final Makeup by one of the students

How to mix and choose colours and create shapes are the first thing that our students learn in The International Platinum Media Makeup Course. In this final piece, they’re applying everything they’ve learned from choosing a foundation colour, checking the skin type, and choosing colours that would suit their model’s eye colour. They also had to apply contouring and highlighting according to their model’s facial shape. They also learned how to draw their model’s eyebrows, eyeliner and lips, doing an ombre lip, and lots of other things that they’ve learned.

Things that they’ve been struggling with in the first weeks they were able to achieve on their final week of photoshoots. As earlier during the week they did other shoots like the No Makeup Makeup Look and Makeup for Mature Ladies. They also did Evening looks, Glamour, and Arabic makeup. Special FX, Creative Makeup, High Fashion, and Creative Instagram Glamour Makeup were last. All of which they had to conceptualise by themselves prior to the shoots.

The students gave it their all during the final leg of their course making sure they were able to finish their looks on time. The students also stayed with the photographer to check how their models look so they can do any touch ups if needed.

That was really a fun week!

Self Makeup Course at TLMI

Self Makeup Course was held last week. We had a student who came in for it. She barely had any idea about how to put her own makeup and she only had a handful of products in her kit.

On the first day of the Self Makeup Course, we did a day makeup look with minimum amount of products and brushes (1 eyeshadow brush). Her main issue was her hyper pigmentation so I taught her how to colour correct. Orange correctors often look intimidating because of its strong colours but when used properly, it can give beautiful results. Next issue that she had were her eyes. throughout the 3 days, I taught her 3 different eyeshadow looks that suit her eye shape. I also gave her a few exercises that she can do while she wasn’t doing anything at home.

On the second day, we did an evening makeup look. This time, we focused on creating smokey eyes. First, she watched how I did my own and then followed what I was doing. This time, she brought her own products and brushes (2 for the eyes and 3 for the face) with her. When she started doing the look, we realised that the colour of her foundation is way off. it was so light on her and the tone wasn’t even correct. So, it was good that she brought them with her so we could choose a different shade for her later on.

The third and last day, she brought the makeup that I recommended for her to buy and it did a lot of difference. she got her own corrector, her colour of foundation, highlighters, a couple of new brushes. We then carried on to doing party makeup. We combined all the techniques she learned the past 2 days and did a makeup and added an eyeliner, eyelashes, and cream contouring.

After everything, we took a photograph at YH Studios so she can have a remembrance of the makeup she did on herself.

We hope you can come and join us for the next batch!

Burj Al Arab – The Luxury Project

Burj al Arab is one of the most luxurious hotels in the UAE and we had the chance to work with the lovely Carlotta Conca  (www.lustforthesublime.com) during her stay here in Dubai.

Carlotta is an Italian Luxury Travel blogger who has travelled in the most beautiful places around the world. She documents her stays in different hotels, resorts, travel spots for people who might want to come to those places. She also features the food, transportation, the night life and activities in the places that she goes to in style.

We were so pleased when we got an email from her indicating that she was going to be in town for a few days and she needed a photographer to document her stay at the Burj al Arab. So for us to be able to work with her is such a great honor.

We got to the most luxurious hotel in Dubai at the given time and made sure we had everything we needed. Brushes, makeup, hair tools, and our cameras. Huge glass doors and gold embellished walls, furniture, and rooms greeted us upon arrival.

We brought the whole crew with us from YH Studios, one of our instructors from The Lipstick Makeup Institute, and our Platinum Makeup Course student.

As an institute, we make sure we bring our students to location shoots to experience real life scenarios as a makeup artist. We give them tasks, even just assisting, so they know what to do in situations like this in the future.

BTS Carlotta Conca

The student was able to complete the look with the help of the instructor for both makeup and hair. The student also assisted the model by retouching her makeup throughout the shoot.

Mothers Day makeup by our students

Lets celebrate all the lovely Mums!

The Lipstick Makeup Institute was a part of the Mothers Day makeup filming in Osh Kosh baby store.

Your setup reflects you. Make sure that your makeup products and brushes are always clean and well organised.

We took our students to experience the working on a location and in front of camera feeling of the Mothers Day makeup filming .

Our students were responsible for a nice flawless and fresh makeup on these lovely ladies.

IMG-20170314-WA0086-1

The task was easy. The mothers got few questions to answer while our students are pampering them and making sure they look lovely and perfectly made up. In this case the perfectly made up means not over the top, nothing glamorous but just a touch of makeup what will make the face fresh, the skin flawless.

The less is always more. This is the most important to memorise!

Always work with the face and the features. Don’t try to apply the same makeup style on every single face.

We are all unique, we all have a different personality also different needs when it comes to makeup. What will suit to me won’t suit you and to some other person.

Our students are trained in that way to recognise the needs of different faces and features. Makeup is used to enhance the beauty and correct the small imperfections not to make you look like a different person.

IMG-20170314-WA0088

Todays makeup look was a Mothers Day makeup. Why is it different than the other makeup looks?

Its very light as a base. On the eyes we were using beige, browns with a touch of highlight. Mascara of course is a must. On the cheeks we added a touch of peach-orange colour to give a refreshing effect for the face as some of our ladies didn’t sleep much. On the lips a transparent lipgloss.

IMG-20170314-WA0099
Mothers Day makeup

Our students in action. Beautifying our lovely models.

It was fun. We heard loads of stories about the funniest stories about their kids, the most important words they love to hear from their kids, and the everyday with 2 or 3 kids in the house.

All these lovely ladies deserve loads of attention, love and pampering… not only when its Mothers Day… but every day!!
