Step 1: Determining Your Face Shape

Before beginning your highlighting and contouring, you must first determine your face shape. Faces can be oval, rectangular, round, heart-shaped, oblong, diamond-shaped, or triangular (including inverted triangular). To determine your face shape, pull all of your hair back tightly and examine your face in the mirror, looking for the following attributes. A measuring tape may be used to measure the length and width of the face for a more precise determination.
OVAL: Oval-shaped faces have a length equal to 1.5 times the width of the face, with forehead and jaw equal widths.
RECTANGULAR: Rectangular faces are 1/3 longer than the width of the face and have strong angles on the forehead and at the jawline.
ROUND: Round faces are as wide as they are long, but with soft, rounded edges.

HEART-SHAPED:

Heart-shaped faces have the most width at the cheek, eye, and forehead areas, with a narrow to pointy chin. Sometimes they will also have a high forehead.
OBLONG: Oblong faces are as long as it is wide. Straight sides, a high forehead, and larger than average distance between the bottom of the lip and the tip of the chin are common attributes of the oblong face.
DIAMOND-SHAPED: Diamond-shaped faces are characterized by a narrow forehead and a narrow chin with the widest point at the cheeks.

Triangular faces are wide at the forehead and narrowest at the jawline; inverted triangular faces are widest at the jawline and narrowest at the forehead.Determining your face shape will help you decide where to place your highlights and contours and what features you’d like to define or downplay.

By illuminating specific areas of the face, you’re putting them in the spotlight, but don’t think taking a face powder with tons of shimmer and applying it all over will give you a flattering look.

Powder cream or liquid

Whoever said choice was a good thing probably wasn’t a woman trying to find the right foundation. Years ago we just grabbed a bottle of beige cream and called it good, but now we have so many options to choose from, including liquids, powders, sticks, pressed powders, and of course the new mineral powders. How are we ever to pick the right one?

We’ve collected a bit of information here to help narrow it down for you. As a basic rule: oily skin types should go for more powder and matte formulas, whereas normal to dry can use more oil-based options. If your skin is dry and dehydrated liquids works the best. Here are the foundations, and when it’s best to use each one.

Powder cream or liquid

Liquid: The most popular option, liquids have been around for a long time and continue to be favorites because they’re so flexible and natural-looking. Oil-based formulas are best for dry to normal skin, and water-based formulas are better for those with oily skin. Liquids also work well in color combinations, if you’re into making your own shades by mixing two or more colors. Be careful of the long-wearing, smudgeproof versions. Though they may stay on longer, they typically have waxy and oily ingredients that can cause skin irritation or breakouts. (In humid conditions, though, they can be lifesavers.) Oil-free options or matte finish brands are best for those with oily or acne-prone skin. Ultra-mattes can also be good for oily types, but tend to leave the skin dry and taut.

Cream: Cream foundation is a good choice for those with dry or mature skin. It provides medium to heavy coverage, and helps skin look soft and smooth.

Sticks: These foundations come in solid form and have more of a drying effect, which may make them best for those with oily skin. They are also good for covering scars and flaws, and for creating more coverage. These are often used in photography sessions, but for everyday use, you may find them too heavy and thick-feeling.

Powder: Similar to pressed powder, loose-powder foundations help control shine. However, they can be too drying. All but the most oily skin types may want to use these for touch-ups only. They also work well when you’re in a hurry, and can be great options for young girls just starting out on makeup as they’re light and easy to apply.

Tip of the day: use translucent powder to set your foundation to get a beautiful and matte finish.

When its about foundation we are always sceptical what is the best way to apply it.

Well it depends what is the type of your foundation and what works the best for you. You have one main goal to achieve a flawless skin.

Use your fingers if you are not happy with the brush strokes or the sponge.

2.Apply your foundation with a foundation brush if you want a strong coverage.

3. Use a buffing brush if you like to keep your foundation dewy

4.Use latex sponge and dab the foundation in your skin if you are using cream textures.

5. Apply the foundation with a foundation brush and use your beauty blender for a fully blended look. Note the beauty blender is for blending the foundation not for application!

6.For a dewy skin apply water spray on your skin and while is wet start with a foundation.

7. The most important doesn’t matter what is your foundation texture (cream, liquid or stick) always apply it in thin layers.

Tip of the day: for a perfect and flawless skin wet your latex sponge and apply your foundation on the face. In this way your foundation will blend in more and will stick more to the skin.

The absolutely favourite full coverage foundation is the Kryolan TV Paint Stick not only makeup artists but anyone loves it who wants a flawless skin just in few strokes.

As a texture is dry and giving a semi matte finish. Perfect for combination skin and effectively reduces the shiny on the oily skin also.

Mostly used in theatre, TV, bridal makeup but can be used for any occasion.

No primer required before the TV Stick. The foundation will stay for more than 12 hours on our skin with just applying the TV stick on a plain skin. What is the right way? Well it depends what is the texture of your foundation.

If its liquid the best is to apply with a foundation brush or buffing or kabuki brush. This way the foundation layer will be thin and invisible on your skin but the same time a nice coverage. The Beauty blender is for blending the foundation after the brush application.

Cream foundations especially if we are using Kryolan Supracolor, Dermacolor or TV Stick the best to apply with wet latex sponge by dabbing in the skin not dragging around the foundation.

Tip of the day: If you have a dry skin and wondering how to achieve dewy and healthy glowing skin here is our tip for you. Before applying the liquid foundation spray your face with a water spray or rose water.

Do this between every single step. The rose water will give you a moisturised and dewy look.

To apply foundation, most individuals use their fingers, a sponge, or a brush. During a season change, there is a modest alteration in skin tone among sunscreen users. The most common problem that all of us struggling from to find the right colour of the foundation we are wearing.

When you go to the makeup store forget about trying the foundation on your hands. The reason is:

the skin on our face is more sensitive
the skin on your face is a different skin type than your hands so of course you have to find the matching foundation to your skin type.

THEORY AND PICTURES

Prosthetic makeup (also called Special make-up effects and FX prosthesis) is the process of using prosthetic sculpting,

moulding and casting techniques to create advanced cosmetic effects.

Prosthetic makeup revolutionised by John Chambers in such films as Planet of the Apes and Little Big Man.

TECHNIQUE

The process of creating a prosthetic appliance begins with life casting, taking a mould of a body part (often the face) to use as a base for sculpting the prosthetic.

Life cast moulds made from prosthetic alginate or more recently, from skin-safe silicone rubber. This initial mould is relatively weak and flexible. A hard mother mould, typically made of plaster or fibreglass bandages its created overtop the initial mould to provide support.

Once negative mould made, its promptly fill with gypsum cement, most of the common brand is “Ultra cal -30 to make a “positive” mould.

The edges of the clay should be as thin as possible, is a stand-in for what will eventually be the prosthetic piece.

Along the edges of the mould, “keys” or mould points are sculpt or carved into the life cast, to make sure that the two pieces of the mould will to together correctly.

After that once sculpting is complete a second mould. This gives two or more pieces of a mould a positive of the face, and one more negative mould pieces of the face with prosthetic sculpt in. Carefully removed and material is cast into mould cavity. The prosthetic material can be foam latex, gelatin, silicone or other similar materials.

Its cured within the two part mould thus creating the beginning of a makeup effect.

One of the hardest parts of prosthetic make-up is keeping the edges as thin as possible. The tissue should be a thin so they are easy to blend and cover giving a flawless look.

The use of prosthetic makeup to create wounds or trauma is called moulage and is used by the military and medical schools to educate lesson psychological trauma when exposed to the real thing.

More tips for Smokey eyes

Tips and tricks:

Make sure you apply makeup on clean skin. This is VERY IMPORTANT. The makeup will look flawless and fresh on a clean and moisturized skin.
For an even look use a cream foundation and apply it in layers.
Make sure to correct the undertones with the right corrector colour, if the undertones are more into purple we have a warm type, correct it with yellow corrector but if its more bluish we have a cool undertone and will correct it with the peach corrector.
For heavy contouring and highlighting use cream products because they are easy to blend.
Always set your foundation with a translucent powder because it will give you a flawless matt look and will hold your makeup.
Make sure that your eyebrows are plucked and shaped.
For a natural but defined look use eye shadows to fill up your eyebrows.
When working with cream textures on the face and eyes make sure that the foundation and corrector are perfectly blended no creases on the lid.
Apply the base eye shadow evenly on the lid.

Smokey Eyes
Before starting with dark eye shadows apply translucent powder under the eyes to avoid smudges on the skin.
When applying the eye shadows make sure that you are using the right brushes and try to get the perfect transition between the colours.
Apply the micro pigments in layers and carefully
For cleaning the small smudges around the eyes always use dry cotton buds never make them wet because you will ruin the makeup.
Make sure that you are applying the mascara from the roots of the lashes to get the full volume effect.
For an extra glamour look apply high lighter on the apples of the cheeks
To make your lipstick lasting much longer apply foundation on the lips and set it with a translucent powder. Use lip liner to define and correct your lips. For the ultra gloss and shine apply micro pigments on the center of the lips.
