Makeup Diploma Color Theory

As we move from the Northern Europe to the Mediterranean, skin assumes a darker colour with olive, beige and brown undertones. Hair is normally dark brown and eyes are generally brown or hazel. The skin is normally smooth, may be oily and is generally somewhat insensitive to the sun. Makeup colours that works well complement the underlying skin tones and are warm in character.

Brown – reds such as ochre and sienna can be used for lip colours, bronzers and for eye makeup. Olive green can also be used for eye shadow. Apricots can be used to brighten the cheeks.

Similarly women with a Mediterranean complexion will have dark areas under the eyes. Try a concealer with hints of peach to disguise these areas. In between the porcelain skin of Northern Europe and the olive skin of the Mediterranean, we find intermediate skin colours and tones. Skin can have beige or honey undertones with hints of red. It tends to be sensitive to the sun. Browns with hints of orange or yellow, very lightly applied, bring out the underlying skin tones. Lips can be peachy or golden brown. However eye makeup can be yellowy brown.

ASIAN SKIN

Basically asian skin typically has a golden colour with brown or orange undertones. Foundation that has a base of yellow / gold suits this skin type. Earthy browns and green suit the eyes. Oranges and corals might suit the lips or, if applied lightly, can highlight the cheeks. Gold bronzers match the basic skin tone.

PORCELAIN SKIN

Therefore Very light, translucent porcelain skin is found in Nordic and Celtic people. The eyes may be blue or green and hair blonde or red. Celts may have freckles are increase by sun.

Overall undertones will be typically cool with hints of blue. Skin colour matching foundation, peach blush, lips should be pink for the day wear and dark reds with a hint of blue for the night. Eye shadow can be chose to coordinate with iris colour.

BROWN SKIN

Generally Brown skin may have beige, olive or red-bronze undertones. The skin colour is very attractive in itself. Stay with natural look that largely matches the brown colour. Foundation can complement the underlying skin tone so a hint of red or ochre works well. A hint of pink on the lips and the cheeks can enliven the face. Use a little shimmer on the lips. For the eyes, use a brown a little lighter than the dominant skin colour for day wear. Overall for the evening, add drama with blues and lilacs.

MULTI – ETHNIC SKIN

While throughout the history, people from different geographical areas have been meeting, marrying and having children. This created new looks, skin colours and tones – very often looks that are strikingly beautiful. As a makeup artist you will see clients whose parents have different ethnicities and race.

First day of Plat 3

First day of Plat 3, 3 week Diploma Course.

This is a new and vibrant makeup Course. It used to be 6 weeks and double the price. After serious consideration.

We decided to make it shorter. Now it is more affordable and less time.

Not everyone has 6 weeks to do the course. If after the 3 weeks then you can specialise.

How many courses?

We have 14 different courses altogether to choose from. if then you want to do additional course.

Like for instance, a concentrated Bridal Course. You then can do an extra 3,5 or 10 days. Just on your chosen subject.

You think 3 weeks is long but no sooner have you started, you are finishing.

Time flies when you are having fun. Although this maybe true, you still pack so much in. Another key point is that we have small classes. The teacher has time to spend with you.

We are not like big schools with 30 in a class. We never have more than 6 students.

This way the teacher spends as much as time as possible with you.

It important to have that special attention. You simply cannot gain as much knowledge when you lost in the crowd for instance.

In February 2022. I had meeting was made with us atThe Atlantis Palm Jumeirah. I met the gorgeous Lyndell to chat about projects. hence during our meeting Lyndell told me that she definitely wants to work with me. This was music to my ears.

Contract for NY Eve

Firstly I was so happy and furthermore I knew that I could do it. evidently, even more so I knew I could do it with style.

Graduates

We had won the contract for the New Years Eve Event at The Atlantis. The residents who come from all over the world will need hair and makeup. This was great opportunity for me to employ our graduates and students to help.

We had around 45 staff to prepare the residents for the gala dinner with Kylie Minogue. It was a a formal dress evening and very glamorous.

Everyone who came and sat in the seats were extremely happy. We had no complaints.

This was the case as we got booked for The Atlantis Royal 3 day event which was HUGE.

It was the biggest job off my career so far. I am now 51 years old and don’t think I can top this one.

I employed maybe around 120 staff for hair and makeup. By and large it was such a success for us. The team serviced only the VIP’s an VVIP”s. The royal Atlantis is such an incredible stage and hotel.

They are such a professional company it brings tears to my eyes that were were chosen. Above all the other makeup schools in Dubai, it was us.

Wet Smokey Look

Wet Smokey LookWet Smokey Look Is a perfect makeup look for photo shoots, high fashion looks and for fashion shows. Basically its a simple full smokey look on the top with a transparent lip gloss. The steps of application are the same as the classical one. We need to make sure that the base (eye shadow) is strong ( 2 layers and blended).

Finish the whole makeup and exactly before the photo shooting or stage apply the lip gloss in one thick layer, carefully not to mess up the eye shadows and blending.

Application

Apply a transparent (clear) lip gloss on the top of eye shadows, especially on the centre of the lid (moving area of the eye) with a flat eye shadow brush. If you want to create a full wet look on the face you can apply the lip gloss on the high point of the face (top of cheekbones, bridge of the nose, chin, centre of the forehead). The look is ready for the shooting or for the stage. This look is not an everyday makeup.

Wet Look

The wet smokey is for fashion shoes or photo shoots. The eye makeup will be spoiled by the lip gloss so make sure that you are in time and quick. The other two ways of creating a wet look is with Vaseline and the 8 hours cream.

THEORY AND PICTURES

Prosthetic makeup (also called Special make-up effects and FX prosthesis) is the process of using prosthetic sculpting,

moulding and casting techniques to create advanced cosmetic effects.

Prosthetic makeup revolutionised by John Chambers in such films as Planet of the Apes and Little Big Man.

TECHNIQUE

The process of creating a prosthetic appliance begins with life casting, taking a mould of a body part (often the face) to use as a base for sculpting the prosthetic.

Life cast moulds made from prosthetic alginate or more recently, from skin-safe silicone rubber. This initial mould is relatively weak and flexible. A hard mother mould, typically made of plaster or fibreglass bandages its created overtop the initial mould to provide support.

Once negative mould made, its promptly fill with gypsum cement, most of the common brand is “Ultra cal -30 to make a “positive” mould.

The edges of the clay should be as thin as possible, is a stand-in for what will eventually be the prosthetic piece.

Along the edges of the mould, “keys” or mould points are sculpt or carved into the life cast, to make sure that the two pieces of the mould will to together correctly.

After that once sculpting is complete a second mould. This gives two or more pieces of a mould a positive of the face, and one more negative mould pieces of the face with prosthetic sculpt in. Carefully removed and material is cast into mould cavity. The prosthetic material can be foam latex, gelatin, silicone or other similar materials.

Its cured within the two part mould thus creating the beginning of a makeup effect.

One of the hardest parts of prosthetic make-up is keeping the edges as thin as possible. The tissue should be a thin so they are easy to blend and cover giving a flawless look.

The use of prosthetic makeup to create wounds or trauma is called moulage and is used by the military and medical schools to educate lesson psychological trauma when exposed to the real thing.
