Contouring at Lipstick The Art of Contouring: A Beginner’s Guide* Contouring has become a buzzword in the beauty world, and for good reason.

This makeup technique, when done right, can enhance your natural features, giving your face a sculpted and defined look. Whether you’re aiming for chiseled cheekbones, a slimmer nose, or a more pronounced jawline, contouring can help you achieve that.

But before you dive in, let’s break it down into simple steps to make it easy to understand.

Understanding Contouring

First and foremost, you need to know what contouring is. Essentially, contouring is all about creating shadows and highlights on your face.

The shadows, created with a darker shade of makeup, will help recede areas you want to minimize. Meanwhile, the highlights, made with a lighter shade, will bring forward the features you want to emphasize.

Therefore, the contrast between light and dark creates the illusion of depth and dimension.

Now, let’s move on to the tools you’ll need. To begin with, you’ll need a contour product.

This could be a powder, cream, or stick, depending on your skin type and preference. In addition to this, you’ll need a highlighter and a good set of brushes.

The Brushes

A contour brush with an angled edge works best for applying the darker shade, while a blending brush is perfect for softening any harsh lines.

Once you have your tools, it’s time to get started. Start by applying the contour product in the hollows of your cheeks, along your hairline, and on the sides of your nose.

Additionally, apply it under your jawline for a more defined look. Afterward, blend it out using circular motions to avoid any harsh lines.

Next, apply the highlighter on the high points of your face – think the tops of your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, and your brow bone.
Finally, blending is key. Keep blending until the makeup seamlessly integrates with your skin.

However, you can see more creativity from the effects of social media such as Youtube and Instagram. Basically, some use Youtube as a tool to learn, some pay to go to different masterclasses, and some go to proper makeup institutes to jumpstart their career.

About our Institute

Firstly, in our institute, we’ve come across students who went to other schools and paid thousands of dirhams only to know that they didn’t learn anything.

Secondly, they don’t even know how to hold a brush properly. It’s really sad since they’ve paid so much money to learn.

Thirdly in the end they are cramped in a space with 25+ students and 1 teacher.

Lastly, they are only entitled to do 2 professional photoshoots and most of their time is spent on paperwork and face charts.
