Bridal Makeup Course at TLMI

Bridal Makeup Course is a very popular makeup course in The Lipstick Makeup Institute.

European Bridal look and an Arabic Makeup look. We can assure you that you can learn how to do it.

One of our Bridal Makeup Course was done last month with a student coming all the way from Pakistan to study with us. She wanted to brush up on her skills as a makeup artist. At first, she thought that her makeup technique was already good and as it turned out, there were still some things wrong about them.

I pointed out to the student her mistakes and she got it in a day’s worth of practice. Now she’s able to blend properly her eyeshadows and her foundation specially contours and blush.

The next other 2 days, she was able to create her own looks for smokey and cut crease.

I’ve also pointed out to her a few things about makeup that it has to be impeccable, clean and fresh looking. So there are certain colours to be used in bridal makeup otherwise it will look too dark and gloomy. Foundation shade is also important as you have to make sure that it’s the correct shade whether it is for photography, videography or in person.

Makeup for brides is tricky because you have to make sure everything is perfect. Skin has to look like skin even with tons of makeup on.

Indian/Pakistani style bridal makeup is usually a bit heavier than European makeup. That’s because the brides are far away from the guests (on a stage).

Successful Self Makeup Application Course

The last couple of days were really fun and successful. A student enrolled for the self makeup application course for 2 days and we had an amazing time with her.

At first, she didn’t know much about makeup and brought her own makeup. From there, we assessed her things and checked if they were the right products for her to become successful. Thankfully, she had a few brushes that were fine, and powder, bronzers, blush and lipsticks that were right for her complexion. Apart from that, the only items that were incorrect were her foundation and eyeshadows.

At first, I taught her a few theoretical aspects of makeup before we headed onto creating makeup looks.

On the first day, we did practice work for Day Makeup. I taught her how to put her makeup on, which brushes to use, how to shape her eyebrows and lips.

On the second and last day of the Self Application Makeup Course, we did a review of the Day Makeup Look and Transitioned it to Evening Makeup and Party Makeup. She was able to do her own makeup with some guidance.

Learning how to put your own makeup is very important especially because appearance in the workplace is essential. When looking for a job, the first thing an employer looks at is someones photograph. In a job interview, a person’s appearance is something someone checks out.

When working in the service business, it’s important to have your makeup done impeccably so that your clients will feel at ease when you talk to them.

Here, at the Lipstick Makeup Institute, we’ll help you land your dream job by helping you in guiding you with your makeup — be it for your workplace, or for a date night. We’re here for you.

Certified Makeup Artist – Students’ Work

Most of our students know nothing of makeup. Which is perfect because when you know a little bit of something, it’s harder to break a bad habit that to make a new one.

Most of our former students are working in the industry now either in retail, salons, media, trainers, and salon owners.

Here are some of our students’ reviews:

“I did the platinum makeup course at The Lipstick MakeUp Institute, during my gap year. It was an awesome experience, I gained not only knowledge but a decent beginner portfolio to start off my makeup journey! Definitely recommend for aspiring makeup artists in Dubai!” – Keleigh Abram

“Just finished a Gold Course at The Lipstick Makeup Institute and it was so informative and interesting I did not want to leave. I visited may schools before I decide and this by far was the best at everything. Also you get to go into the studio with your models and see how being a makeup artist really is. Its the best training i have ever had. Now I know why they win so many awards. Its true they do deserve it. I know why the makeup team do all the fashion shows. You are the best and thank you for everything. I will be back and I will tell everyone about you. Thanks again” – Willamina Smith

“Its awesome makeup institute and I love it and YH Studio is superb” – Kinza Islam

Official Makeup Team at the AFW S7

Official Makeup Team of the Arab Fashion Week Season 7

It’s time for another season of Design and Art in the Middle East and we are pleased to announce that we were the Official Makeup Team of the Arab Fashion Week Season 7 in Dubai. The show was held in 2 locations and they were The Dubai Design District and City Walk in Jumeirah.

http://arabfashionweek.org/sponsors/

The weeks before we announced this and asked our students if they can come with us. So, we had a few meetings and workshops prior to the fashion shows.

The first 2 days were held at the Dubai Design District. The first show was with AMATO, which everyone was so excited about. The look that he wanted in the show was a bold smokey eye with a graphic eyeliner around it. Then, the team had to do 2 other looks for the same models with a limited time.  In total, we had 5 fashion shows that day (AMATO, Old Times, Bav Taylor, Yara Bin Shakar, ThisNorThat)

The second day, we had the same amount of designers – BLSSD, Pearla Collection, Huang Jia Production, Yi Dai Mei, and Ilse Jara. The highlight of the night was the collection by Ilse Jara. And our task was to put gold leaves on the models’ foreheads and necks and it was breathtaking.

The 3rd to 5th days were held at City Walk in Jumeirah. It was then when we did 7 Designers on the 3rd day. It was a hectic day but really rewarding.

The 4th day, we had a very busy day and the highlight of the day was when suddenly the lights went off in the Green room at around 5pm – 2 hours before the show. Our team started doing makeup on the models in the dark with only mobile phones giving them light on the models. After an hour, the lights came back on and our team definitely had a once in a lifetime experience.

The 5th day, and supposedly the last day, there was the storm. As we finished all the prep work for the models, the organisers decided not to push through with the fashion show because of the rain. The show was being held outdoors, as a result the show had to be pushed over to the next day.

Key Makeup Artist Arab Fashion Week 2018

Hi everyone. So lets speak little bit about upcoming Arab Fashion Week.

First two days of the event will be located at amazing area of Dubai Design District, well known as D3. Lovely backstage area, everything organised in a proper way, the atmosphere there is always special. So yesterday we had first trial day. In a team with designers, hairdressers and beautiful models we created and confirmed final looks for catwalks. It will be challenging, but as we all know professionals are not doing steps back.

The concentration of incredible designers is impressing, in this case we are talking not only about local once but from all over the world. The star that will be opening the fashion show is Amato. The clothes and the way this person creating each look is epitome of creativity. Being the leading makeup artists team for such a huge event is always a big responsibility, even though you are doing it every year. At the same time this few days are period of great fun, professional growth and personal satisfaction.

I should mention that in our job to be a good team player is one of the most important parts for achieving great success in all kinds of events. The left three days of Arab Fashion Week 2018 will be based at one more beautiful part of Dubai, which is The City Walk Dubai. See you there. Last Day of Classes

Last day is always the hardest yet fulfilling day of the courses. The students were tasked to do an Instagram Glamour inspired Makeup with a twist.  As their last photoshoot, they did their best to create their final look as impeccable as possible.

Choosing an inspiration online for their last look was a daunting task but they were able to pull it off. Checking popular ‘makeup gurus’ online made them feel confident about doing their task.

How to mix and choose colours and create shapes are the first thing that our students learn in The International Platinum Media Makeup Course. In this final piece, they’re applying everything they’ve learned from choosing a foundation colour, checking the skin type, and choosing colours that would suit their model’s eye colour. They also had to apply contouring and highlighting according to their model’s facial shape. They also learned how to draw their model’s eyebrows, eyeliner and lips, doing an ombre lip, and lots of other things that they’ve learned.

Things that they’ve been struggling with in the first weeks they were able to achieve on their final week of photoshoots. As earlier during the week they did other shoots like the No Makeup Makeup Look and Makeup for Mature Ladies. They also did Evening looks, Glamour, and Arabic makeup. Special FX, Creative Makeup, High Fashion, and Creative Instagram Glamour Makeup were last. All of which they had to conceptualise by themselves prior to the shoots.

The students gave it their all during the final leg of their course making sure they were able to finish their looks on time. The students also stayed with the photographer to check how their models look so they can do any touch ups if needed.

That was really a fun week!

Self Makeup Course at TLMI

Self Makeup Course was held last week. We had a student who came in for it. She barely had any idea about how to put her own makeup and she only had a handful of products in her kit.

On the first day of the Self Makeup Course, we did a day makeup look with minimum amount of products and brushes (1 eyeshadow brush). Her main issue was her hyper pigmentation so I taught her how to colour correct. Orange correctors often look intimidating because of its strong colours but when used properly, it can give beautiful results. Next issue that she had were her eyes. throughout the 3 days, I taught her 3 different eyeshadow looks that suit her eye shape. I also gave her a few exercises that she can do while she wasn’t doing anything at home.

On the second day, we did an evening makeup look. This time, we focused on creating smokey eyes. First, she watched how I did my own and then followed what I was doing. This time, she brought her own products and brushes (2 for the eyes and 3 for the face) with her. When she started doing the look, we realised that the colour of her foundation is way off. it was so light on her and the tone wasn’t even correct. So, it was good that she brought them with her so we could choose a different shade for her later on.

The third and last day, she brought the makeup that I recommended for her to buy and it did a lot of difference. she got her own corrector, her colour of foundation, highlighters, a couple of new brushes. We then carried on to doing party makeup. We combined all the techniques she learned the past 2 days and did a makeup and added an eyeliner, eyelashes, and cream contouring.

After everything, we took a photograph at YH Studios so she can have a remembrance of the makeup she did on herself.

We hope you can come and join us for the next batch!

Burj Al Arab – The Luxury Project

Burj al Arab is one of the most luxurious hotels in the UAE and we had the chance to work with the lovely Carlotta Conca  (www.lustforthesublime.com) during her stay here in Dubai.

Carlotta is an Italian Luxury Travel blogger who has travelled in the most beautiful places around the world. She documents her stays in different hotels, resorts, travel spots for people who might want to come to those places. She also features the food, transportation, the night life and activities in the places that she goes to in style.

We were so pleased when we got an email from her indicating that she was going to be in town for a few days and she needed a photographer to document her stay at the Burj al Arab. So for us to be able to work with her is such a great honor.

We got to the most luxurious hotel in Dubai at the given time and made sure we had everything we needed. Brushes, makeup, hair tools, and our cameras. Huge glass doors and gold embellished walls, furniture, and rooms greeted us upon arrival.

We brought the whole crew with us from YH Studios, one of our instructors from The Lipstick Makeup Institute, and our Platinum Makeup Course student.

As an institute, we make sure we bring our students to location shoots to experience real life scenarios as a makeup artist. We give them tasks, even just assisting, so they know what to do in situations like this in the future.

The student was able to complete the look with the help of the instructor for both makeup and hair. The student also assisted the model by retouching her makeup throughout the shoot.

We ended the shoot by celebrating a little with a few snacks and drinks at her hotel room.

Foundation for You

Foundation is very important in makeup application.

There are literally thousands of different shades and formulas in the market today. In this blog post, I’ll give you a few easy tips and tricks when it comes to finding the perfect foundation for you.

Fashion Show Backstage

Skin Type

Finding out your skin type is vital into finding the perfect formula of foundation for your skin. Different kinds of skin types but the most common are normal, dry, oily, and combination. How do you distinguish which one is yours? Take a few oil blotting paper and place them one side of your forehead, nose, cheek, jaw, and chin. Check which blotting paper has oil in it.

Foundation Shades
Fashion Show Backstage

Normal Skin: All sheets have a minimal amount of oil

Dry Skin: all sheets are dry

Oily Skin: All sheets have more amount of oil

Combination Skin: Forehead, Cheeks, Nose, and Chin have oil

Skin Tone

We are either Cool, Neutral or Warm toned. Check the veins on your wrists. The natural colour of our veins are blue so if your veins appear blue then you’re in the cool-toned spectrum due to the lack of melanin in the skin (skin is translucent). If your vein appears green, then you’re in the warm-toned spectrum. If you see your veins are purple then you’re probably neutral.

Skin Colour

Now that you’ve established your skin tone, time to find the right shade for you. Finding the correct shade is usually very daunting. I always suggest going to a physical store when buying foundation instead of buying online. Most formulas oxidise so it’s best to try it on yourself before purchasing it. I suggest that when you go shopping, always start with a couple of foundations you’re eyeing on and carry on throughout your day shopping. Check it after a couple of hours and then come back to the shop to purchase or try another one.

Foundation Shade

In choosing your foundation shade, apply your foundation to your jawline and part of your neck. Decide on which part of your body do you want to follow (neck and chest or face) because most of us have either lighter or darker faces than other parts of our body.

Coverage/Finish

In choosing the thickness, texture and formula of your foundation, you have to choose it according to your skin type.

Normal Skin: Any Liquid or Cream-based

Dry Skin: BB Creams, Liquid and Cream-based with extra moisture

Oily Skin: Water-based Cake, Full Matte Coverage, Compact Powder Foundation.

Combination: Any formula as long as it’s properly primed and moisturised in the correct areas.

Congratulations! I hope you enjoy your new foundation.:)

Creative Makeup Week

Nothing pleases me more than getting extremely creative students.

During our last leg of the course, our students get their hands “dirty” during the Creative Makeup Week. They work with glitter, metallic paints, latex, fake blood, wax, and everything that as to do with Special Effects makeup. In a way, it’s like Halloween all year round in the institute. hahahaha!

Our International Platinum Course is a Fashion Makeup Course as we work closely with Our Sister company YH Studios DXB who is a Global Award Winning studio. All our students are privileged enough to work with the photographers every day.  all their models are shot in the studio after makeup. This teaches the students how to become a “REAL” Makeup artist. By this I mean they learn the etiquette of being a makeup artist.

They just don’t learn how to apply makeup but learn how to act in a real shoot. They need to understand when it is the right time to correct any makeup or do touch ups. They need to understand that its a joint effort in making perfect pictures.

The relationship between Makeup Artist and Photographer is very important. This can be the essence of creating the perfect look. Atmosphere and ambiance really shows in the final image.

our student learn all about #fashion-makeup and High Fashion makeup at The Lipstick Makeup Institute. If you want to excel in the world of makeup then join our Makeup Institute. We are Award winners 2017 and 1018 for a reason.

We really love what we do. Its a lifestyle not just a career.
