At the lipstick institute, we highly focus on the makeup theory with our students. We give our students a full knowledge on the history of makeup; as its essential to know every look for every Era. Students will be tested on the history makeup and will be practicing the looks on the model.
During the theory week at The Lipstick institute, the makeup educator goes over the personal hygiene, makeup and brush hygiene, and makeup organization.
Learning the eye shapes, face shapes, lashes, makeup steps, the use of the different kind of brushes, covering skin types and skin conditions. The lipstick institute gives their students a whole booklet that covers everything about makeup with pictures.
The makeup educator goes through the different styles from day look to evening to SFX etc. It’s important for the students, to have an understanding of the looks and steps before being in the makeup room.
Finally, the teacher makes her student work on a two face charts, so she can get a good idea on her students understanding. At this point, students should be ready to proceed with the makeup application training.

How to match foundation to skin tone, Imagine you’re on a hunt for the perfect foundation, lip color, or blush shade — and you find it! The texture, formula, and depth of color are all that you’d hope for, then you put it on, and everything goes completely out the window. The best-laid plans fall flat, the color is completely off! “What happened? I had everything right!” you may be thinking, then you take another look, and you notice three words: Neutral, Warm, and Cool.
You may be wondering, what does it all mean, and how does it affect not only my foundation shade choice but also my lip shade and cheek shade choices? The trick is learning how to match foundation to skin tone.

What Are Undertones?
Neutral, warm, and cool represent your undertone. Your undertone is just as important as your surface tone. The undertone represents the color from underneath the surface of your skin that affects your overall hue. There are three undertones – neutral, warm, and cool.
Neutral undertones have a mix of cool and warm undertones which means they can comfortably vacillate between blue-based shades and orange-based shades.
A warm undertone is more peachy, golden, or yellow therefore warmer undertones look better in warmer shades such as orange-based reds, corals, and golds.
A cool undertone is generally associated with skin that has hints of blue or pink. The best makeup for cool undertones include shades like bluer-based reds, pinks, or purples.
How to Find My Undertone
The next question you may be asking is how do I determine my undertone?
Here are three methods that are commonly used:
The vein method. Start by looking at the veins on the inside of your wrist. If your veins look blue, you have cool undertones. If your veins look green, then you’re warm. If you are neutral, this technique may prove to be more difficult since you have a mixture of both cool and warm. The vein method can be a bit challenging so trying out one or both the following methods may be easier.
The white fabric method. This method includes holding up a piece of white fabric and an off-white fabric to your face. If you look better in white, you have a warm undertone, whereas if you look better in off-white or look washed out in white, you have a cool undertone. If both look good, you’re neutral.
The jewelry selection method. This may be the fastest way of all. Typically, cooler undertones look better in silver and warmer undertones better in gold, whereas neutral undertones can look great in both.
One thing to be cautious about is not to confuse depth of skin tone with undertone. Even the fairest skin can have warm undertones, and darker skin can have cool ones. Even when tanning, your surface tone may change but undertone never changes.

The first day we speak about the different looks of editorial makeup, show our students different work samples from previous years.
Editorial makeup is different from everyday makeup, evening makeup, or party makeup. Editorial makeup is technically for magazines, fashion photography, and billboards.
On the second day, we encourage our students to get different inspiration looks and practice on each other.
This will build the confidence of the students, and give them the full understanding of the different techniques.

Cleanse, tone and moisturise: Wait a few minutes for moisturiser to be absorbed
Foundation: Dab liquid foundation over the entire face with your fingertips or sponge. For cream foundation use a wet sponge for a smoother coverage
Make sure that the entire face is well blended and covered. Don’t stop at jaw line extend the foundation under it also and on the neck
Corrector / concealer: Cover blemishes and dark areas with orange, yellow or peach-toned
Corrector: The concealer will conceal the corrector colour, what is in skin colours. Application with fingertips or concealer brush.
Powder: Use a loose pale yellow-based powder or translucent dusting powder to set the makeup
Eyebrows: Shape the brows with a small amount of brow powder or pencil. If you have a dark hair, use a colour that is one or two tones lighter than the hair colour
Eye shadow: Choose three shades of eye shadow: light, medium and dark. Use the dark to line upper lid, thinly, along the lash edge. Use medium shade to cover the remaining part of the eye lid up to the crease
Eyeliner: Use cake liner and apply with an angled or fine liner brush, or use a sharpened eyeliner pencil.
Mascara: Black mascara is the best to highlight your lashes. Apply in two thin coats rather than one heavy one
Blush: Apply the blush directly on the cheekbones and blend it to the hairline.
Lip liner: Apply lip liner in advance of lip colour as the lip liner helps contain the lipstick, keeps it from feathering, and makes it more durable.
Lipstick: Use a lip brush to apply dark or bright colours since these require very precise application. Add a dot of a gloss to the centre of the bottom lip and then blot

How to start your journey.
Firstly, on the Gold Make up Course you will learn all about the history of make up because it’s so important.
Secondly, why do we teach you about skin care? This is the beginning of the journey off applying your makeup. skin care, colour theory, face/eye shapes and contouring.
Thirdly, you will start with the basics of daytime and evening makeup, European bridal as well as beginner hairstyling.
