1. For Flawless Skin: Prep is Key
Flawless makeup always starts with a great, hydrating skincare regime. The reality is, the better hydrated your skin is, the less likely your makeup will look cakey.
2. To Avoid a Cakey or Patchy Look: Exfoliate First
Beautiful, glowing skin is our number one goal RN, and the easiest way to achieve a radiant glow is by exfoliating before makeup application. Without regular exfoliation, your foundation runs the risk of looking cakey or patchy, as it clings to dry skin and texture.
3. To Find the Right Foundation: Always Read the Label
It might sound obvious, but you should always read the label before purchasing a new product, especially a new foundation.
4. For the Ultimate Shade Match: Buy Two Foundations
If a foundation you love doesn’t have the perfect shade match for you, buy a foundation that’s one shade lighter than your skin tone and one that’s slightly darker, then combine the two. While we know this is a more expensive option, it does just mean that both formulas will last longer
5. For the Perfect Shade: Figure out Your Undertone
Finding the right undertone is key to shade matching like a pro-MUA. There are three key undertones: warm (golden, red, and yellow undertones), cool (beige and pink undertones), and neutral (a balance of gold and pink undertones). Your undertone, look at the veins on the inside of your wrist; if they’re green, you have a warm undertone (the yellow in your skin acts as a filter and makes your blue veins look green), and if they look blue, you have a cool undertone. Since the focus of week one is purifying and detoxing your skin, a clay mask is ideal. Clay will help extract any oil or impurities in your pores – you can see the oil gather as it’s pulled from your pores – it’s gross, yet oddly satisfying.

By introducing vitamin C to your skin, you’ll provide a surge of antioxidants that’ll brighten and illuminate the skin. Vitamin C serums will also help lighten any dark spots, so if your skin is prone to hyperpigmentation, make sure you’re using a vitamin C product.

As week two is all about healing and hydration, a sleeping mask is an essential. In Korea, some women use a sleeping mask every night, although we think three times a week is plenty! A sleeping mask is like a supercharger night cream that’ll enhance the regeneration process that naturally occurs when your sleep. The mask will also act a barrier preventing moisture loss.
Give Yourself A DIY Facial
Ok, so once you’ve reached midweek (week two), it’s all about chasing that glow. So it’s time to give yourself the ultimate DIY facial. While we’ve covered most of the steps – cleanse, cleanse, exfoliate, mask, tone, moisturize – we also love to do a facial steam after cleansing and before we apply a face mask

In the same way that you wouldn’t lend to your toothbrush to anyone, you shouldn’t share certain beauty products. Our bodies and skin are rife with invisible bacteria and we can never be sure of someone’s level of hygiene. Despite your generous nature, it’s best not to share: Treatments in pots: The contents may be contaminated, as we use our fingers to apply them. Day cream, eyeshadow, lip gloss, body lotions… All of these come in pots or bottles and should be strictly kept for personal use. It’s important that you don’t increase the risk of adding bacteria to your products. So it’s wise to give your hands a thorough wash before dipping your fingers into your favourite products. And make sure you firmly close their lids to keep them better preserved.
Hygiene Beauty Products
Lipstick: Never lend your lipstick to someone – even if it’s your best friend!
Viruses and bacteria (herpes, thrush, cold sores) thrive in our mouths and are not visible to the naked eye. We can be carriers of certain illnesses without having symptoms, but that may not the same in your case!
So better to be safe than sorry and keep your lipstick under wraps. Ditto for lip gloss and balms.
Mascara: Our eye zone is incredibly sensitive and prone to infections including conjunctivitis, styes and orbital cellulitis. Even if your mascara wand looks clean when you take it out, don’t take any risks by sharing it with others! If you can’t bear to say “”no””, then opt for silicone mascara wands (as do pros), which are easy to clean. Eyeliner: As with all parts of the eye, the mucous membrane is particularly at risk of infection. So keep your eyeliner to yourself – its oily tip is a bacterial breeding ground! Compacts: It’s not the compact itself that’s risky, but rather the sponge, applicator or brush that comes with it. By sharing your powder, you’re also sharing germs.
Loose powder, compact foundations, bronzers should be for you and you only. Brushes: You’ll be okay if you wash your brushes – kabuki, blusher, bevel and fan brushes – after each use. If that’s not the case, don’t share them. Bacteria love them and their bristles! Nail files: As with nail clippers, these should not be doled out. When we give ourselves a manicure/pedicure, we dislodge bacteria and grime hidden under our nails.
Even if you keep them for personal use, it’s wise to wash and dry your hands before using them.
Nail varnish, however, is fine to share as bacteria aren’t capable of surviving in their bottles. The same goes for perfume (the alcohol content zaps bacteria), sprays (as we don’t touch them with our fingers) and pencils (which can be sharpened to get a clean surface).

The sun and the heat can be fatal for tanning the skin. In the summer, UV rays augment the production of sebum, which secretes more easily through dilated pores as a result of climbing temperatures. Sebum acts in ‘self-defense’ mode when the skin is losing water, producing more oil to retain it. The result is that your face shines and your skin feels greasy to the touch. Another factor is perspiration caused by heat, stress, or exertion. Perspiration mixes with sebum and increases the shine. Your skin will look greasier than ever, but rest assured, you are not alone. A shiny T-zone is a concern for one in every two women.
For oily skin you need to know
It’s a common mistake to think that an application of cream will make the skin oilier. In fact, hydrating the skin is essential, even when it is oily, otherwise it will dry out and secrete more sebum to maintain balance. However, choose a hydrating product with a light texture, such as a lotion or an emulsifying mattifier, which diminishes shine. The lightweight texture of this Skin Essence Lotion is quickly absorbed into the skin and it smoothes your skin texture and boosts radiance. The last thing you need when you have oily skin is a product that feels heavy or greasy, and the White Perfect Skin Essence is a powerful and concentrated essence water that feels comfortable on your skin.
Some products refine skin texture to make it feel lighter. An emulsion consisting of an aqueous phase which hydrates and an oily phase (essential oils and vegetable oils) which protects is ideal for oily skin. Choose a formulation that contains more water than oily substances so that it absorbs quickly without leaving an oily film. Also try cleansing with a clay mask once or twice a week as this will unclog pores and better oxygenate the skin.
