BBC Documentary at the Lipstick Makeup Institute

BBC Ireland passed by our makeup institute a couple of days ago to do an interview with Yasmin Hussain the founder of YH Studios and The Lipstick Makeup Institute.

BBC Ireland passed by the other day to do a documentary with Yasmin for a TV show. The shoot was was scheduled for two days in YH Studios, The Lipstick Makeup Institute and the Arab Fashion Council Headquarters.

They were able to feature some of our students working on their models and had an interview with Jacob Abrian, the CEO and Founder of the Arab Fashion Council. 

The BBC crew were able to film our teachers, students and graduates while working on our models in the hour-long documentary.

They talked about how the students and graduates are very much involved during and after their courses finish. This is very evident with the fact that we bring them to different events and photoshoots. This is also great for them to have exposure for their careers as makeup artists. It is a blessing to have wonderful and talented students that are so hard working.  

They toured around the facilities and showcased our new location at City Walk 2. We wanted to make sure that people know that we’ve moved from Media City and is now in a better area at the heart of Dubai.

Trunk Show at 1422 – A new season, a new collection. The Arab Fashion Council will be holding another trunk show together with The Lipstick Makeup Institute Team. It will be held in the Arab Fashion Council Head Quarters in City Walk.

Trunk Show at 1422 – Our team is doing makeup for the trunk show with the Arab Fashion Council. We are very excited about this. Our team will be backstage taking care of the models before the show. Making sure that they’re ready before they walk out clad in beautiful garments made by world class designers from the region. As the official backstage makeup team, we strive to showcase our talents and skills no matter how big or small the event is.  

We’ll be using the cosmetic products provided to us by Makeup Forever Middle East. They have been gracious enough to sponsor our Institute with their amazing products. 

Also, if you haven’t read our previous blog, we mentioned that we’re having a crash course on the Professional Platinum Media Makeup Diploma Course. We’re holding this course for three weeks intensively – like a boot camp. The students who will be joining this course will be receiving the benefits of the Platinum Media Makeup Diploma Course. They will be receiving the Platinum Diploma and will be completely certified, discounts from various professional brands like Makeup Forever, Grimas, Kryolan and others. Final Creative makeup, we teach basics of using different mediums such as cream coloured makeup, water based makeup (face paint), body painting and how to stick materials to the skin without damaging it. Bulgari Hotel with TLMI

9th of August, 2019, we had a client at Bulgari Hotels & Resorts Dubai. With our efforts to help our student practice their skills, we brought one of our students to the hotel. Our students have been taking the Platinum Makeup Course for 5 weeks now and they’re about to finish the course this week.

We brought her for a photoshoot with one of our VIP Clients who came all the way from Malaysia for their Wedding Anniversary at the Bulgari Hotels & Resorts. Together with the YH Studios Team and the Head Teacher of The Lipstick Makeup Institute, our student was able to create a glam look on the client.

For the past 5 weeks that she was with us, she has learned how to properly create a full look on different skin types, skin tones, and different eye shapes. We’ve given them tasks that would hone their skills for their upcoming career as a professional makeup artist.

The past 5 weeks, they’ve been put in situations like professional photoshoots for magazines and fashion shows. In makeup, skills are not the only important thing but also character building and ethics and how you present yourself as a makeup artist on set.

In Bulgari Hotels and Resorts with our VIP Clients, we were able to present our student to the guests as professional as possible. They were very happy with the results of the shoot and enjoyed the whole experience. 

As for our student, she has gained experience and confidence by working with real-life clients which is not available in other makeup institutes. Of course, it is with the guidance of our head teachers from The Lipstick Makeup Institute.

Our TEAM is our proud. The Graduates from The Platinum Media Makeup  course from The Lipstick Makeup Institute  and Head Makeup Artist was leading the makeup department backstage. Head hairstylist Jamilla Paul – trainer of Sisters Beauty Lounge. Together were created really cool high fashion looks for beautiful models from Cover Page Agency Dubai. 

Each member is extremely busy during 5 days of  Arab Fashion Week. The  Teams was  making 360 sure that all the models were ready before every show. Each evening we had  a variety of designers with there own looks.  Some designers were stacking to natural glowy looks,  but at the same time  some of them were looking for something extravagant, bright and sparkling .

European Bridal look and an Arabic Makeup look. We can assure you that you can learn how to do it. 

One of our Bridal Makeup Course was done last month with a student coming all the way from Pakistan to study with us. She wanted to brush up on her skills as a makeup artist. At first, she thought that her makeup technique was already good and as it turned out, there were still some things wrong about them.

I pointed out to the student her mistakes and she got it in a day’s worth of practice. Now she’s able to blend properly her eyeshadows and her foundation specially contours and blush.

The next other 2 days, she was able to create her own looks for smokey and cut crease. 

I’ve also pointed out to her a few things about makeup that it has to be impeccable, clean and fresh looking. So there are certain colours to be used in bridal makeup otherwise it will look too dark and gloomy. Foundation shade is also important as you have to make sure that it’s the correct shade whether it is for photography, videography or in person. 

Makeup for brides is tricky because you have to make sure everything is perfect. Skin has to look like skin even with tons of makeup on. 

Indian/Pakistani style bridal makeup is usually a bit heavier than European makeup. That’s because the brides are far away from the guests (on a stage).

Successful Self Makeup Application Course

The last couple of days were really fun and successful. A student enrolled for the self makeup application course for 2 days and we had an amazing time with her. 

At first, she didn’t know much about makeup and brought her own makeup. From there, we assessed her things and checked if they were the right products for her to become successful. Thankfully, she had a few brushes that were fine, and powder, bronzers, blush and lipsticks that were right for her complexion. Apart from that, the only items that were incorrect were her foundation and eyeshadows.

At first, I taught her a few theoretical aspects of makeup before we headed onto creating makeup looks. 

On the first day, we did practice work for Day Makeup. I taught her how to put her makeup on, which brushes to use, how to shape her eyebrows and lips.

On the second and last day of the Self Application Makeup Course, we did a review of the Day Makeup Look and Transitioned it to Evening Makeup and Party Makeup. She was able to do her own makeup with some guidance.

Learning how to put your own makeup is very important especially because appearance in the workplace is essential. When looking for a job, the first thing an employer looks at is someones photograph. In a job interview, a person’s appearance is something someone checks out.
