Another Successful Make Up Student

We are always so proud that students travel across the globe to choose our make up institute over any other to to teach them the skills that they need to advance them into the world of Make Up.

I am always flattered when I ask them, How did you find us”? and they say that they google, “Make Up Schools in Dubai” and they looked at what all the schools had to offer and they like the look of our website, our testimonials, the work that we do and they see what the students are achieving and we are far ahead of any other make up institute. It means that we have done our job well.

The reason that we achieved this is because we opened the make up Institute because we are passionate about it and this is the most apparent attribute and this is clear for anyone to see.

Its not just a business but its our life and we just love it.

I am not just saying it but our students feel at home here and get really sad when their courses are over as we do. Once you leave the Institute we don’t forget you though. We keep in touch with our students and try to involve them in our Fashion Shows and any event we can. We really do care about our students. They become a part of  our small family here.

The other great attribute that puts Our Make up institute better than any other in Dubai is that we have a sister company, YH Studios DXB and all our students get professional images for their portfolio, how many depends on what course they have chosen

This is such a great advantage for the students to have such images in their portfolio as believe e when i tell you that I have interviewed over 60 make Up Artists and no one! has any professional images. I advertised for a “teacher” and one applicant sent me face cards, I couldn’t understand this at all. I asked her that all the years she claims to be a make up artist and have taught for so may years yet she send me , Face Charts. Unreal.

I know how important it is to have a portfolio and a  diary of your achievements. I have been a photographer for 28 years so I really do know the value of a portfolio and thats why when we were  comprising the courses it was imperative that we incorporated professional photographs for the students portfolios.

Here are the results of one of our students who has just finished a 3 Day Bronze Course.

Amazing pictures with great talent.

Creative UV Makeup Training Day for All The Lipstick Teams

“We love what we do and do what we love”

Thats Our Motto and we stick to it!

And the most we love is to create yet unseen looks and concepts in makeup and showcase it to all of you.

Yesterday was a Creative makeup training day in our Institute for The Lipstick Team.

We love our team and they deserve the best training.

We were presenting 2 completely different looks:

  1. Avant-garde makeup

2. Fantasy makeup – body painting with UV Glow colours

About the Avant-garde style

The term avant-garde refers to innovative or experimental concepts or works, or the group of people producing them. Pushing boundaries with the  development of Cubism, Pablo Picasso was part of the early 20th-century art world’s avant-garde. He in fact Personifies this style!

So we were pushing our boundaries and combined loads of different makeup application techniques in our Creative Make Up day.

Of course as always we were using Kryolan products so much glitters, gellafix, crushed mirror, sequences, crystals, Supracolors in colours, Aquacolors and glitter powders and pure colour pigments.

Our concept was to create something different and special.

Inspired by high fashion and fantasy looks, to create an aqua, watery impression followed by glow and shine.

Our models final look is really impressive, different and extraordinary but still she looks beautiful and feminine.

Fantasy look with UV glow colours

Our another look was inspired by the fantastic Galaxy.

This is how we created the, “Galactical Princess” Look, Sparkly and bright.

Handmade skirt, painted top and collar were the main contents of this look.

It was a real fun look to work on Our Lipstick Teams were fascinated as they had never been involved in anything like this before. A complete transformation before their eyes.

I was applying the UV colours in the dark under the UV light with the whole team watching it.

Of course it was a bit challenging but that was the most interesting part in it.

For the whole look we were using Kryolan products.

Kryolan UV glow aqua colors, UV glow eyeshadows and Hair spray and a free hand to draw some funky lines and splash the colours all over the models body.

We really enjoyed creating the look and looking forward to the next project.

Cocktail Makeup

taniawallerx3

It’s fun to get all glammed up every now and again, and what better way to do just that than with a makeover made JUST for cocktail parties. We teamed up with our fast beauty pals KRYOLAN.

Finding the dress is the easy part. Deciding what makeup to team with it? One big headache. Red lip, nude lip, eye liner, no eyeliner, the party prep dilemmas are endless!

Here’s how to create a celeb worthy cocktail look in 20 minutes flat. They don’t call it fast beauty for nothing!

How to get the cocktail look:

1. Cleanse the skin, then instantly moisturize and prime with ultimate makeup prep.

2. Use a brush to apply foundation and dab concealer under eyes or on any blemishes.

3. Cover the entire eye area up to the brow bone with shimmering cream eye shadow.

4. Create a fast, feline flick with liquid liner pen.

5. Apply mascara starting at the base of the lashes and jiggling up.

6. For definition, apply bronzing powder to apples of cheeks and sweep to the temples.

7. Finish look by filling in brows with a brow pencil and a slick of lip gloss on the lips

Daytime lips and lipstick

The Lipstick.

Woman’s lips are one of the most sensual part of the face so we need to take a good care of them.

Moisturise it and enhance it with our favourite lipstick.

Lipstick are every woman’s first love and mostly one of the first cosmetic items she starts using in her life. A dash of colour on the pout adds to the charm of a woman and makes her look really beautiful. Usually the choice of any lip colour is largely based on the occasion when you wish to flaunt the lip colour. Usually very vibrant bold shades are kept to be worn at special events like wedding or engagements and some other intense shades for a date night. Well, the choice of lipstick also depends on the day and night time as one likes to keep the stunning dramatic shades for the night time look and wear soft lip color during the day time.

In general, it holds quite true as a very bold and bright shade of lip colour may not go with your look during the day but the same lip colour will make you look drop dead gorgeous if worn during the night!

This lipstick colour is in natural brown color which falls into the category of nude shades. Since this is not a very deep brown, the shade will look good on medium to fair skin tones as well

Pink is a beautiful cool toned everyday wear pink shade. It is a little lighter than a proper fuchsia shade. It doesn’t dry the lips and doesn’t transfer much. It is surely a great pink for everyday wear!

It is a brick red shade with brown hues. The shade is a wearable brown. It does not transfer much and stays for a good time. The lipstick is not highly pigmented and a second swipe is needed to get the colour.

This one belongs to the nude shade category and is light brown hue with very slight undertones of mauve shade. It looks more of a creamy light nude brown shade. It looks very nice during the day time.

How to behave on a makeup appointment

Maryland-makeup-artist-dc-kelley-unthank-weddings

I think this topic is a big question all the time!

First of all we make up artists are human beings like you clients.

We have feelings like anyone else and also like respect and appreciation.

We are not plastic surgeons and robots!

Why I’m telling this?

Because most of the clients are not clear with the realistic expectations.

What makeup can do and what not?

Lets clear up why are we using makeup?

We are talking about classical glamorous looks.

We are applying makeup to enhance the natural beauty of the face and correct the imperfections!

Thats it easy and simple.

The makeup will not make you look like Kim Kardashian or Jennifer Lopez or who ever….

You don’t want to hide behind a mask created of foundation.

And of course much more!!

Unfortunately nowadays we are facing these unrealistic expectations. And what will happen at the end you will get a “bad makeup artist” reputation because you can’t make a Kim from everyone.

Well  ladies just to inform you this is not working like that.

First of all you need to be clear with yourself what is possible to bring out from your face and what not.

You don’t know it?

Thats why we are here … the professional makeup artists!

Lets start with some tips how to behave on a makeup appointment:

  1. You know that you are going for a makeup appointment so PLEASE DONT WEAR MAKEUP! And now you’re asking why? All of us want happy clients happy client equals happy makeup artist! The makeup will be perfect on a clean face and thats why there is no point of applying makeup for the makeup appointment. Anyway the makeup artist will clean up your  face and of course the mascara is a nightmare to clean up and after reapplying again. So make our lives easier and come with clean and moisturised face for your appointment.

2. Research your artists work before you book an appointment! As i said before we are all human beings with feelings. Bad comments and judging before even starting the makeup on your face is really painful for us! As for anyone else. If you know the artists work and you book an appointment with her or him you can be sure that you are in good hands and you dont have to judge or question every single move what she or he is doing!

3. Don’t be late!

If you are booked in at 2pm please be there at 2pm. Not 1.45 or 2.30 or other time. We are working on time…and time is a very precious thing. Being late is not a condition its a choice. All of us we know the conditions of the traffic, time, etc… so be prepared and be on time please!

4. Give time for the makeup

You are late and now you are rushing your artist to do a magic on your face for 15 minutes. Im really sorry ladies but this doesn’t work like this. A good work needs time. If you know that you will require a glamorous and complicated makeup don’t expect to be ready in 15 minutes!

5. Don’t judge the makeup from a foundation! The makeup in process can’t be judge. All of us, artists we have a different style of application. What you do at home in your bathroom, or watching you tube videos is one thing. The other is when you go to a professional and she or he will do your makeup. It will look different and its absolutely normal!

6. When we say close your eyes that means close it and don’t open till we say open. Opening your eyes can destroy the texture of the eyeshadows especially if we are working with Aqua (watercolours). So please follow the instructions of the artist. We know exactly what we are doing!

7. Trust  your artist

In my opinion this is one of the most important factors in this relationship. Without trust you will destroy the artists life and experience, as well as yours also. No one wants to leave the makeup appointment with bad feeling, terrible experience and even tears in eyes.

To avoid this discuss with your artist the desired look, the occasion, dress, style everything so there won’t be any misunderstanding and disappointment.

8. Relax and enjoy

The makeup application should be a nice and relaxing experience.

All you need to do is to sit, relax and enjoy. The rest is on us!

Makeup-Blog-Makeup-Hygiene-No-nos-Career-As-a-Makeup-Artist-Applying-Lipstick-with-Makeup-Brush

9. You asked for the price. And you got it.

The following question: No discount? or What is your last price?

Dear ladies that makeup artist paid for her studies, paid so much money for her makeup set and brushes. Energy, time and experience.

All this and most of the time we are talking about discounts and last price.

Please respect our work and effort! We are working hard to make you look the best as you can. Asking for discounts all the time and saving money on the makeup makes our work less important and not respected.

10. We often hear this: “Ahh its just makeup i will do mine ”

or

“Why is it so expensive i just want a simple makeup?”

To answer the first question:

Whatever you do, wherever you go the first thing you will check on the others is THE FACE!

Not the dress, shoes, accessories, hair etc… but THE Face!

When you talk to the people they will look at your face as they are talking to you… not to your dress or hair!

On your wedding you are the center of attention so you want to make sure that you look absolutely perfect! So start from your face with a perfect MAKE Up!

The answer to the second question is doesn’t matter how simple makeup you want it still takes all the steps…foundation, corrector, concealer, powder, eyebrows, eye shadows, mascara, blusher and lipstick. The difference is between the application technique and intensity in colours, but we are still using the same products and doing the same steps. So thats why you are paying the much money even its a simple look.

11. Using mobile phones while you are getting your makeup done

Absolutely no! Everyone can live without a phone for maximum 1 hour. Using phones, taking selfies while doing the makeup is not only annoying for the artist but makes our job really difficult.

Let us do our job and after the makeup you can take really good selfies with your beautiful makeup  on!

No OFFENCE to anyone… this is just the 17 years experience and the every day happening in this makeup artist life.

These are just simple tips how make our lives easier and to make sure both sides are happy and satisfied.

Makeup steps

How to start your makeup application?

Foundation first or eye makeup?

As you are checking the You Tube videos you will see so many different makeup application techniques and definitely you will be confused.

Makeup-tips-for-beginners
makeup steps

We are here to help you sorting out this confusion.

So lets see the makeup steps:

  1. Make sure your face is clean, the makeup will look much better on a clean skin than to add some makeup on to the existing makeup.
  2. Use a toner, the toner cleans up your skin perfectly, refreshing it and closing the pores, basically preparing your skin for the makeup application.
  3. Moisturise, especially if you have a dry skin!
  4. Depending on a foundation type apply primer. The primer will  prepare your skin for a foundation and will make your makeup lasting longer.
  5. Apply foundation, all over the face, eyelids, under the eyes, blend it to the neck area also.
  6. When is the foundation perfect? When you can’t see it because none wants to see the foundation just the flawless skin, forget about the caked up, mask effect foundation! That is out of trend for a long time.
step-by-step-makeup-tutorial
makeup application

7. Correct the skin imperfections. Most of the time we are mixing up the correctors with concealers. The correctors are in colours (yellow, peach, green and orange) and are useful in correcting the dislocations on  our face.

8.Then conceal it! Because of the concealers your skin will be green or orange depends what colours are you applying you have to conceal  it. That means the concealers are skin colours.

9.Contour and highlight and of course blend it!

contours and highlights

10.Set your base with a translucent powder

The-Ultimate-Steps-to-do-Your-Makeup-Flawlessly6
translucent powder

11.Start with your eyebrows in this case you can make sure that you won’t miss any part of your face

12.Apply the eye makeup

13. Blusher

14.Lipstick

Now you have a question why in this order?

There is a logical explanation for this.

When you start with a foundation you do 60% of the job and you will have a flawless canvas to work on. All the eyeshadow colours will show much better on the already corrected skin. Even if you do a smokey look or working with dark colours you can easily avoid the fall outs by applying translucent powder under the eye area before starting with eye makeup.

This technique is faster and more efficient all you need is to practice

Stay with us tomorrow as we will talk about dos and donuts in your makeup routine !

Have a nice day ladies

Blusher application and the right colour for you

Hi guys welcome back. Yesterday we talked about False Lashes!

Today we talk about blushes!

We have all seen those people that were far too much blusher and look a bit like a clown. This often causes many of us to stay away from blusher and not use it for fear of looking like a fool. The aim of this article is to explain the benefits of using blusher and how to apply it to get the right effect.

When Blusher is used correctly it will add a natural glow to the skin as well as adding contours to the face. It is a great tool and should appear in any woman’s makeup bag.

What Type of Blusher?

When looking for blusher you will find you can get it as a powder, cream of even a gel. They all have different qualities and it is a good idea to pick one that you feel comfortable using. The creams and gels will stay on the longest but the powders will come with more choice of colour. Powder must be applied over foundation whereas other types can be applied on bare skin.

What Colour should You Choose?

When choosing the colour of your blusher, you should first consider your skin tone and then, the look that you want to achieve. Now let’s consider the types of colours and how they work.

Cool colours – These are colours that tend to have a blue undertone and will add freshness and a healthy glow to your face. For light skin go for a pink and a plum or similar will work for darker skin. If you are wearing a brown or orangey lipstick don’t use a cool colour for your blusher.

Warm Colours – These will normally have orange undertones and they work best for contouring the cheeks and adding definition to the face. If you have a light complexion then you should think about using a light apricot whereas a burnt orange may be better for those with darker skin. Don’t use a warm blusher if you are going to wear a cool lipstick or a lip colour that has a blue undertone.

Universal Colours – These are those shades that generally come in between the cool and warm colours. The advantage of these is that they suit everyone and go with any share of lipstick. For light skin you are best to go with a peach, for medium skin rosewood works well and red is best for darker skin.

Natural Colours – These are the neutral beiges and browns. These have very little red in them and are best used as a bronzer rather than a blusher and can in fact be use alongside your usual blusher.

Unknown-3

TIP for the day:If you were at all worried about blusher you should not be now. Experiment, try different colours, just remember that blusher should be subtle and look natural

Stay with us tomorrow as we will share some awesome tips about your makeup steps and how to do them in a right way. This will save you some time and money of course!

Don’t miss it!

How to get the perfect Smokey Eyes. Tips and tricks from The Lipstick make Up institute

Smokey Eyes

Smokey eyes have become a classic party eye makeup look. The secret of this trend’s popularity is that smoky eyes can change your face dramatically, transforming the girl-next-door into a stylish diva.

Once you learn and master these application and blending techniques, the transition will take you only a few minutes. You can then have irresistible-looking eyes, even if they are not big or bright.

In this article you will learn:

  • how to choose the texture of your eye makeup.
  • which are the most flattering shades.
  • easy and mess-free application techniques.

Colour

Smoky eyes colour

You will need one black eye pencil, at least two colours of powder eyeshadow, and dark mascara to produce a fantastic smoky eyes effect. Once you have mastered how to do this your confidence will go through the roof and when your friends see what you have done on your eyes they will ask you every time you are going out with them if you will do their eyes too. I promise, just see!!

You will know what I am talking about!

The base colour should be a rich shimmery (not metallic) powder texture. Choose a shade slightly darker than your skin tone. You may choose neutral beige or grey colours for a soft and sophisticated look; or use a bright base for a dramatic look.

The contour colour must be a dark, matte, or slightly shimmery colour. Choose between dark brown, blue, green, or purple, depending on the colour of your attire. Use black with any outfit for a stunning effect.

You may add a third shade to your smoky eyes: a slightly shimmery highlight colour applied just under the eyebrows. This will enlarge the eye area and also soften any demarcation lines that remain after blending. Your normal facial powder can produce the same result if you are aiming for a more sophisticated look.

Choose soft black eye pencil or kohl for an enhancing all-around contour. Never use liquid eyeliner; it is for crisp lines, not the soft and sultry look we are aiming for here.

Black thickening mascara and stronger-than-usual eyebrows are in tune with smoky eyes makes.

Stay tuned tomorrow as we discuss on the right application for smokey eyes.
