In this article, we will talk about which type of makeup you need for each type on a show as well as some tips and tricks to perfect your runway look.
What types of shows are there?
There are many different kinds of fashion shows. Whether it’s on the street, in a theater, or at an exclusive runway event you will need to know what type of makeup look is best for your face shape and skin tone! Some people make the mistake of thinking that all fashion shows are the same, but this simply isn’t true.
Theatrical Fashion Shows: These types of shows usually take place on a stage in front of an audience. The makeup look for these events is often very glamorized and theatrical. Think bold eyeshadow, false lashes, and lots of contouring! If you’re attending a theatrical fashion show, it’s best to go all out with your makeup look.
Types:
Street Fashion Shows:
Street fashion shows are just that – shows on the street! This type of event is usually less formal than a theatrical show and the makeup look should reflect this. Think natural beauty, dewy skin, and subtle eyeshadow.
Exclusive Fashion Shows:

Theatrical Fashion Shows:
If you’re attending a theatrical fashion show, you’ll need a glamorized and theatrical makeup look. This type of show often features bold colors, dramatic eyeshadow and lots of contouring.

How to achieve the perfect fashion show makeup look:
Now that you know what type of makeup look you need for your fashion show, it’s time to learn how to achieve it! We’ve got some tips and tricks for you.
Theatrical Fashion Shows:
If you’re attending a theatrical fashion show, the makeup look is going to be very dramatic.
Use black eyeliner on both your top and bottom lash lines Use false lashes Add lots of contouring Apply a smokey eye shadow look
Street Fashion Shows:
If you’re attending a street fashion show, the makeup look will be more natural.
Use a bronzer on the cheekbones and temples Apply blush to both your cheeks and lips Use brown eyeliner only on the top lash line
Exclusive Fashion Shows: If you’re attending an exclusive fashion show, consider keeping your makeup look minimal.
Tip & Tricks:
– Use a highlighter on the cheekbones and bridge of the nose to really highlight your best features
– Apply blush in a circular motion to the apples of your cheeks for a natural flush
– For subtle eyeshadow, use light shades like champagne or beige
– To make your lips look fuller, apply a nude lipstick
– Use a lip liner in the same color as your lipstick to really define your lips
– For eyeliner, use a black or brown pencil liner on the top lash line and a dark shadow on the bottom lash line for a smokey look.
– If you’re using false lashes, make sure to use lash glue
– To prevent smudging, layer a translucent powder over your foundation and set with loose powder. You can also spray an anti-shine finishing mist to really make sure the makeup stays in place all day!
– Get ready for late night parties by using waterproof mascara on both your top and bottom lashes
– Use a black or brown pencil liner on the top lash line and a dark shadow on the bottom lash line for a smokey look.

Applying eyeshadow is relatively easy. However, learning to apply eye makeup the right way is no simple task. How do you choose the right shade for your eye color and skin tone? Do you really need 10 makeup brushes? Will you ever use every color in that eyeshadow palette?
We know that it’s easy to get confused about the best ways to make your eyes pop, so we’ve crafted a five-step guide to show you exactly how to handle all those eyeliners, mascaras and shadows. Let’s get started:
Start with great makeup brushes.
There’s a reason famous artists don’t finger paint: it’s much harder to create a masterpiece without the proper tools. The same holds true for makeup application. Invest in a few good cosmetic brushes for even, precise, and hygienic makeup application. Luckily, you can get great ones without dropping an entire paycheck.
Apply a base eyeshadow to the lid.
Using your eyeshadow brush, grab your favorite eyeshadow palette and sweep your favorite base shade on your eyelid. Depending on the look you’re going for, you can bring this base color all the way up to your brow bone in preparation for a more dramatic smoky eye, or you can stop at the crease of your eye for a basic, everyday look.
In the latter case, here’s a foolproof trick: place the color into the crease of your eye when your eyes are open, and work down toward the lash line. That way, you’ll never overshoot your crease or end up with messy lines.
Concentrate darker shadow in the eye crease.
Dark colors attract light, so placing a darker tone of shadow in the crease of the eye makes your eyes pop by adding depth and dimension in the exact right spot.
Blending Brush into a dark shadow and sweep it right along the eye socket, following the shape of your eye between your brow bone and eyelid.
If you have hooded eyes, your upper lid covers most of your mobile lid when your eyes are open. That means you will have to play with different, higher placements for crease shadow, because if you simply apply along the eye socket, the color will disappear when you open your eyes. Instead, start with your eyes open and use your brush to mark where you want that dark color to start in order to be visible. Then, close your eyes and blend across, smoothing out any hard lines and focusing pigment on the outermost corner of the eye in a “V” shape.
Rim your lash lines in a super-dark color.
Eyeliner that’s applied correctly can make your lashes look thicker. If you’re not a huge fan of eyeliner, you can get a similarly impactful look (that’s easier to wash off!) with a super-dark eyeshadow. Use a flat, short-bristled brush to press the dark color along the edges of your upper eyelid where your eyelashes begin, and along the lower lash line. If you like to wear liner on your waterline (the inner-most rim of the eye), the bristles might irritate your eye so you can trace this line with one of our favorite waterproof eyeliners.
Highlight with a pretty shimmery shadow.
Make your brows pop and add lift by adding a shimmery pale eyeshadow or pencil directly under the brow. Add the same pearly light color to the inner corner of the eye to brighten things up, too. Finish with a few coats of our favorite mascara, and you’re good to go.
