Key Makeup Artist Arab Fashion Week 2018

Key Makeup Artist Arab Fashion Week 2018

Hi everyone. So lets speak little bit about upcoming Arab Fashion Week.

First two days of the event will be located at amazing area of Dubai Design District, well known as D3. Lovely backstage area, everything organised in a proper way, the atmosphere there is always special. So yesterday we had first trial day. In a team with designers, hairdressers and beautiful models we created and confirmed final looks for catwalks. It will be challenging, but as we all know professionals are not doing steps back.

The concentration of incredible designers is impressing, in this case we are talking not only about local once but from all over the world. The star that will be opening the fashion show is Amato. The clothes and the way this person creating each look is epitome of creativity. Being the leading makeup artists team for such a huge event is always a big responsibility, even though you are doing it every year. At the same time this few days are period of great fun, professional growth and personal satisfaction.

I should mention that in our job to be a good team player is one of the most important parts for achieving great success in all kinds of events. The left three days of Arab Fashion Week 2018 will be based at one more beautiful part of Dubai, which is The City Walk Dubai. See you there. If you want to see more live videos, stories & photos from backstage life feel free to follow us on Facebook or Instagram.

Last Day of Classes

Last day is always the hardest yet fulfilling day of the courses. The students were tasked to do an Instagram Glamour inspired Makeup with a twist.  As their last photoshoot, they did their best to create their final look as impeccable as possible.

Choosing an inspiration online for their last look was a daunting task but they were able to pull it off. Checking popular ‘makeup gurus’ online made them feel confident about doing their task.

Final Makeup by one of the students

How to mix and choose colours and create shapes are the first thing that our students learn in The International Platinum Media Makeup Course. In this final piece, they’re applying everything they’ve learned from choosing a foundation colour, checking the skin type, and choosing colours that would suit their model’s eye colour. They also had to apply contouring and highlighting according to their model’s facial shape. They also learned how to draw their model’s eyebrows, eyeliner and lips, doing an ombre lip, and lots of other things that they’ve learned.

Things that they’ve been struggling with in the first weeks they were able to achieve on their final week of photoshoots. As earlier during the week they did other shoots like the No Makeup Makeup Look and Makeup for Mature Ladies. They also did Evening looks, Glamour, and Arabic makeup. Special FX, Creative Makeup, High Fashion, and Creative Instagram Glamour Makeup were last. All of which they had to conceptualise by themselves prior to the shoots.

The students gave it their all during the final leg of their course making sure they were able to finish their looks on time. The students also stayed with the photographer to check how their models look so they can do any touch ups if needed.

That was really a fun week!

Foundation for You

Foundation is very important in makeup application.

There are literally thousands of different shades and formulas in the market today. In this blog post, I’ll give you a few easy tips and tricks when it comes to finding the perfect foundation for you.

Fashion Show Backstage
Fashion Show Backstage

Skin Type

Finding out your skin type is vital into finding the perfect formula of foundation for your skin. Different kinds of skin types but the most common are normal, dry, oily, and combination. How do you distinguish which one is yours? Take a few oil blotting paper and place them one side of your forehead, nose, cheek, jaw, and chin. Check which blotting paper has oil in it.

Foundation Shades
Fashion Show Backstage

Normal Skin: All sheets have a minimal amount of oil

Dry Skin: all sheets are dry

Oily Skin: All sheets have more amount of oil

Combination Skin: Forehead, Cheeks, Nose, and Chin have oil

Skin Tone

We are either Cool, Neutral or Warm toned. Check the veins on your wrists. The natural colour of our veins are blue so if your veins appear blue then you’re in the cool-toned spectrum due to the lack of melanin in the skin (skin is translucent). If your vein appears green, then you’re in the warm-toned spectrum. If you see your veins are purple then you’re probably neutral.

Skin Colour

Now that you’ve established your skin tone, time to find the right shade for you. Finding the correct shade is usually very daunting. I always suggest going to a physical store when buying foundation instead of buying online. Most formulas oxidise so it’s best to try it on yourself before purchasing it. I suggest that when you go shopping, always start with a couple of foundations you’re eyeing on and carry on throughout your day shopping. Check it after a couple of hours and then come back to the shop to purchase or try another one.

Foundation Shade

In choosing your foundation shade, apply your foundation to your jawline and part of your neck. Decide on which part of your body do you want to follow (neck and chest or face) because most of us have either lighter or darker faces than other parts of our body.

Coverage/Finish

In choosing the thickness, texture and formula of your foundation, you have to choose it according to your skin type.

Normal Skin: Any Liquid or Cream-based

Dry Skin: BB Creams, Liquid and Cream-based with extra moisture

Oily Skin: Water-based Cake, Full Matte Coverage, Compact Powder Foundation.

Combination: Any formula as long as it’s properly primed and moisturised in the correct areas.

Congratulations! I hope you enjoy your new foundation.:)

Lipstick’s Students at the Emirates Palace

The Lipstick Makeup Institute Graduates worked at the Emirates Palace for a day.

20th of July, 2018 marks a very special day in the Lipstick Makeup Institute’s history. Together with our partners from Ted Morgan, our former students took in the task of creating the looks for Chinese dancers and musicians who were invited to perform for UAE’s Royal family and China’s President Xi Jinping at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi.

Artists from all around the world gathered in Abu Dhabi for this special event prepared performances that highlighted the relationship of the UAE with China with fusions of the Far and Middle East in song and dance.

Behind the Scenes Rehearsals

Our graduates were challenged to do makeup on about 20 people in a span of 2 hours with the guidance of one of the teachers and organisers.

Behind the Scenes - Backstage

They were tasked to do traditional Chinese makeup with red and orange eyeshadow and a scarlet red lip.

Work in Progress Pegs for the Show

They also did makeup on the European  and Emirati Musicians with a classic light smokey eye and nude or red lips.

As for the kids, they had very simple makeup that suit their age and performance – clean foundation, blush, lip gloss.

As the students hustle backstage, Chinese Reporters come in and out of the makeup room to interview  the performers.

It was a very busy and stressful day but in the end, it was all worth it.

Varion & Soraya – the wonderful designers

They owned it as they felt so confident in their attire. Shining bright with Soraya’s gowns and make up that gave them confidence to hold their heads up high.

The students are in their last week of training. 6 weeks of intensive training. They started with not much knowledge  and now they are leaving with so much that they are bursting at the seams.

They are ready to tackle the outside world and start using all that they have learnt along the way.

They covered everything from the no makeup look to special effects. One end of the spectrum to the next!

I am so so proud of them that I could cry! It always makes me so happy. I love my students!!

Dubai Modest Fashion Week

We are all really please to be asked to participate in the Dubai modest  Fashion Week.

Its an amazing event. The first time to be held in the UAE to be held here. It has ben showcased in London, Istanbul and New York, sop not such a small event.

It was influcted  with influencers, bloggers and amazing designers. It is the first time that The Lipstick Make Up Institute has been involved in a fashion Show with predominantly hijabs.

The models looked just so beautiful and elegant in the Beautiful designs all ver elegant for Dubais Modest Fashion Week.

There were so many designers that came to Dubai just for this event from all over the world.

As usual, The Lipstick Make Up Institute Teams just love Fashion Shows. We thrive on the adrenalin and the rush of the exciting challenges that the days bring. We love the pressure and th dramatic changes from designer to designer.

This time though there were not too may changes as it the Title of the Show says, The Modern Fashion Show! so hence the makeup had also to be minimalistic and not so pronounced. Delicate and flawless makeup was the dominant feature of the shows. This was so not to take anything away from the designers and the clothes.

I never knew that there so many ways to wear a hijab and look so cool. The clothes were very , ” now” and so  in with fashion, we were all so impressed. The fashion world is complimenting each continent and blending from East to west and north to south and the results of this are shown on the runway.

We just can’t wait for the next Fashion Show. This is the season of events and the teams are all busy bees.

Next week The Lipstick Make Up institute Teams are celebrating on a yacht party together as a great ending to the year. We can sail and watch the sunset together on The Palm Jumeirah.

Cannot wait. Congratulations to Everyone!!!!

Arab Fashion Week Fashion Shows Day 1

Welcome to Day 1

Backstage at Arab Fashion Week with The Lipstick Make Up Institute Team Day1 is where the magic starts.  Everyone is full of beans are ready to go. 5 Designers  5 Look changes

Look 1

Designer: Rad  Hourani
The look that Rad  wanted for his collection NEVER goes out of fashion. We can honestly say everyone on the planet wants beautiful, clear glowing skin. The No MakeUp Look is so beautiful and elegant, we had a great time just making the models look dewy with a healthy glow, and it also makes a great base for the next look. Simply light coat of illamasqua  foundation and vaseline to finish off the look. This finished the look completely to give it the fresh, high fashion edge!

#glowingskin #gettheglow #nomakeuplook #clearskin

Look 2

Designer: Jenanne Filat

All the single ladies to the front row please for the male runway show.  MakeUp is not just for women. Gold Lips and eyeliner.

We contoured the cheeks with a slight bronze and gold highlighter.  This look had a kind of  Cleopatra feel.

Look 3

Designer: Abdo Aoudai

This look was very simple and but chic, a classic look for the stunning evening dresses.  Dewy base with very little on the eyes, one coat of mascara, bottom lash line a soft brown shadow and peachy lips. Soft highlighter on the cheeks with a touch of vaseline to finish the look off.  Finished off with straight and neat hair made this look effortless and romantic.

Look 4

Designer: Marchesa

Lucky for us MakeUp Artist, this look was very similar to Look 3. Pale pink lips and eyes,  very light base, this was a big trend on Day1. We used vaseline to give a sheen on the eyelids and lips to finish the look off. Pale pinks and nude tones are a big trend this season.

Being backstage at a fashion show is so much more than just being a MakeUp artist. You are part of a family to get the show on the road. The trick is to all stick together, work with confidence, keep alert and of course ALWAYS smile and never loose focus. Its important to be on the ball as fashion shows can be a crazy rush backstage.

When it comes to fashion shows, they key thing to remember is timing is everything.  As beautiful and stunning fashion shows are from the front row, its not all glitz and glamour backstage. Backstage is where the months of hard work comes to life in a matter of hours. However, the rush is additive and the achievement you feel once the show has finished lasts for days.

This amazing experience gave our fantastic Lipstick Make Up Institute team to express their artistry in more ways than one. Each day kept us all on our toes, we all loved it and left us craving for more.  We got to work with fashion designers from around the world which we can all defiantly say this is a “pinch-me” moment. You might be there to do MakeUp but do not be surprised if you get pulled by someone to help dress a model, tidy a models hair or even to maybe run and get some water and food for everyone.

Mothers Day makeup by our students

Lets celebrate all the lovely Mums!

The Lipstick Makeup Institute was a part of the Mothers Day makeup filming in Osh Kosh baby store.

IMG-20170314-WA0023-1

IMG-20170314-WA0022

Your setup reflects you. Make sure that your makeup products and brushes are always clean and well organised.

We took our students to experience the working on a location and in front of camera feeling of the Mothers Day makeup filming .

Our students were responsible for a nice flawless and fresh makeup on these lovely ladies.

IMG-20170314-WA0068
Students in action applying Mothers Day makeup

IMG-20170314-WA0086-1

The task was easy. The mothers got few questions to answer while our students are pampering them and making sure they look lovely and perfectly made up. In this case the perfectly made up means not over the top, nothing glamorous but just a touch of makeup what will make the face fresh, the skin flawless.

The less is always more. This is the most important to memorise!

Always work with the face and the features. Don’t try to apply the same makeup style on every single face.

We are all unique, we all have a different personality also different needs when it comes to makeup. What will suit to me won’t suit you and to some other person.

Our students are trained in that way to recognise the needs of different faces and features. Makeup is used to enhance the beauty and correct the small imperfections not to make you look like a different person.

IMG-20170314-WA0088

Todays makeup look was a Mothers Day makeup. Why is it different than the other makeup looks?

Its very light as a base. On the eyes we were using beige, browns with a touch of highlight. Mascara of course is a must. On the cheeks we added a touch of peach-orange colour to give a refreshing effect for the face as some of our ladies didn’t sleep much. On the lips a transparent lipgloss.

IMG-20170314-WA0099
Mothers Day makeup

Our students in action. Beautifying our lovely models.

It was fun. We heard loads of stories about the funniest stories about their kids, the most important words they love to hear from their kids, and the everyday with 2 or 3 kids in the house.

All these lovely ladies deserve loads of attention, love and pampering… not only when its Mothers Day… but every day!!
