Self Makeup Course was held last week. We had a student who came in for it. She barely had any idea about how to put her own makeup and she only had a handful of products in her kit.On the first day of the Self Makeup Course, we did a day makeup look with minimum amount of products and brushes (1 eyeshadow brush). Her main issue was her hyper pigmentation so I taught her how to colour correct. Orange correctors often look intimidating because of its strong colours but when used properly, it can give beautiful results. Next issue that she had were her eyes. throughout the 3 days, I taught her 3 different eyeshadow looks that suit her eye shape. I also gave her a few exercises that she can do while she wasn't doing anything at home. On the second day, we did an evening makeup look. This time, we focused on creating smokey eyes. First, she watched how I did my own and then followed what I was doing. This time, she brought her own products and brushes (2 for the eyes and 3 for the face) with her. When she started doing the look, we realised that the colour of her foundation is way off. it was so light on her and the tone wasn't even correct. So, it was good that she brought them with her so we could choose a different shade for her later on. The third and last day, she brought the makeup that I recommended for her to buy and it did a lot of difference. she got her own corrector, her colour of foundation, highlighters, a couple of new brushes. We then carried on to doing party makeup. We combined all the techniques she learned the past 2 days and did a makeup and added an eyeliner, eyelashes, and cream contouring. After everything, we took a photograph at YH Studios so she can have a remembrance of the makeup she did on herself. We hope you can come and join us for the next batch! https://ae.kryolan.com
Burj al Arab is one of the most luxurious hotels in the UAE and we had the chance to work with the lovely Carlotta Conca (www.lustforthesublime.com) during her stay here in Dubai.
Carlotta is an Italian Luxury Travel blogger who has travelled in the most beautiful places around the world. She documents her stays in different hotels, resorts, travel spots for people who might want to come to those places. She also features the food, transportation, the night life and activities in the places that she goes to in style.
We were so pleased when we got an email from her indicating that she was going to be in town for a few days and she needed a photographer to document her stay at the Burj al Arab. So for us to be able to work with her is such a great honor.
We got to the most luxurious hotel in Dubai at the given time and made sure we had everything we needed. Brushes, makeup, hair tools, and our cameras. Huge glass doors and gold embellished walls, furniture, and rooms greeted us upon arrival.
We brought the whole crew with us from YH Studios, one of our instructors from The Lipstick Makeup Institute, and our Platinum Makeup Course student.
As an institute, we make sure we bring our students to location shoots to experience real life scenarios as a makeup artist. We give them tasks, even just assisting, so they know what to do in situations like this in the future.
The student was able to complete the look with the help of the instructor for both makeup and hair. The student also assisted the model by retouching her makeup throughout the shoot.
We ended the shoot by celebrating a little with a few snacks and drinks at her hotel room.
Foundation is very important in makeup application. There are literally thousands of different shades and formulas in the market today. In this blog post, I’ll give you a few easy tips and tricks when it comes to finding the perfect foundation for you.
Finding out your skin type is vital into finding the perfect formula of foundation for your skin. Different kinds of skin types but the most common are normal, dry, oily, and combination. How do you distinguish which one is yours? Take a few oil blotting paper and place them one side of your forehead, nose, cheek, jaw, and chin. Check which blotting paper has oil in it.
Normal Skin: All sheets have a minimal amount of oil
Dry Skin: all sheets are dry
Oily Skin: All sheets have more amount of oil
Combination Skin: Forehead, Cheeks, Nose, and Chin have oil
We are either Cool, Neutral or Warm toned. Check the veins on your wrists. The natural colour of our veins are blue so if your veins appear blue then you’re in the cool-toned spectrum due to the lack of melanin in the skin (skin is translucent). If your vein appears green, then you’re in the warm-toned spectrum. If you see your veins are purple then you’re probably neutral.
Now that you’ve established your skin tone, time to find the right shade for you. Finding the correct shade is usually very daunting. I always suggest going to a physical store when buying foundation instead of buying online. Most formulas oxidise so it’s best to try it on yourself before purchasing it. I suggest that when you go shopping, always start with a couple of foundations you’re eyeing on and carry on throughout your day shopping. Check it after a couple of hours and then come back to the shop to purchase or try another one.
In choosing your foundation shade, apply your foundation to your jawline and part of your neck. Decide on which part of your body do you want to follow (neck and chest or face) because most of us have either lighter or darker faces than other parts of our body.
In choosing the thickness, texture and formula of your foundation, you have to choose it according to your skin type.
Normal Skin: Any Liquid or Cream-based
Dry Skin: BB Creams, Liquid and Cream-based with extra moisture
Oily Skin: Water-based Cake, Full Matte Coverage, Compact Powder Foundation.
Combination: Any formula as long as it's properly primed and moisturised in the correct areas.
Congratulations! I hope you enjoy your new foundation.:)

Nothing pleases me more than getting extremely creative students.During our last leg of the course, our students get their hands "dirty" during the Creative Makeup Week. They work with glitter, metallic paints, latex, fake blood, wax, and everything that as to do with Special Effects makeup. In a way, it's like Halloween all year round in the institute. hahahaha! Our International Platinum Course is a Fashion Makeup Course as we work closely with Our Sister company YH Studios DXB who is a Global Award Winning studio. All our students are privileged enough to work with the photographers every day. all their models are shot in the studio after makeup. This teaches the students how to become a "REAL" Makeup artist. By this I mean they learn the etiquette of being a makeup artist. They just don't learn how to apply makeup but learn how to act in a real shoot. They need to understand when it is the right time to correct any makeup or do touch ups. They need to understand that its a joint effort in making perfect pictures. The relationship between Makeup Artist and Photographer is very important. This can be the essence of creating the perfect look. Atmosphere and ambiance really shows in the final image. our student learn all about #fashion-makeup and High Fashion makeup at The Lipstick Makeup Institute. If you want to excel in the world of makeup then join our Makeup Institute. We are Award winners 2017 and 1018 for a reason. We really love what we do. Its a lifestyle not just a career.
The Lipstick Makeup Institute Graduates worked at the Emirates Palace for a day.20th of July, 2018 marks a very special day in the Lipstick Makeup Institute's history. Together with our partners from Ted Morgan, our former students took in the task of creating the looks for Chinese dancers and musicians who were invited to perform for UAE's Royal family and China's President Xi Jinping at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi. https://www.thenational.ae/uae/heritage/orchestral-performance-hits-the-right-note-for-chinese-visit-1.752592 Artists from all around the world gathered in Abu Dhabi for this special event prepared performances that highlighted the relationship of the UAE with China with fusions of the Far and Middle East in song and dance. Our graduates were challenged to do makeup on about 20 people in a span of 2 hours with the guidance of one of the teachers and organisers. They were tasked to do traditional Chinese makeup with red and orange eyeshadow and a scarlet red lip. They also did makeup on the European and Emirati Musicians with a classic light smokey eye and nude or red lips. As for the kids, they had very simple makeup that suit their age and performance - clean foundation, blush, lip gloss. As the students hustle backstage, Chinese Reporters come in and out of the makeup room to interview the performers. It was a very busy and stressful day but in the end, it was all worth it.
Lipstick Makeup Institute Students First Fashion showThis took place @ V11 last week.
SORAYA B. COUTURE AND VAROIN MARWAH AW 2018 FASHION SHOWLast Friday, June 22 2018, we were able to collaborate with a couple of wonderful designers, SORAYA B. COUTURE and VAROIN MARWAH at VII DUBAI in Conrad Hotel. In cooperation with Fashion TV, our students from the Lipstick Makeup Institute created the looks for the models before they marched their way into the runway. The beautiful models came out with a mixture of blinding gold highlights and fuschia pink cheeks Avant Garde looks. With the guidance of one of our teachers and the coordinator, the students were challenged to finish their makeup look within 10-15 mins per model in their first ever fashion show. The YH Studios crew also took photos and videos for the event. Models lining up to get their looks done. It was a jam-packed show. The models adorning the designs by Soraya and Varoin gleamed on the cat-walk. They owned it as they felt so confident in their attire. Shining bright with Soraya's gowns and make up that gave them confidence to hold their heads up high. The students are in their last week of training. 6 weeks of intensive training. They started with not much knowledge and now they are leaving with so much that they are bursting at the seams. They are ready to tackle the outside world and start using all that they have learnt along the way. They covered everything from the no makeup look to special effects. One end of the spectrum to the next! I am so so proud of them that I could cry! It always makes me so happy. I love my students!!
The Life of a Makeup Artist Have you ever spent hours late at night watching makeup tutorials online and thought…hmm I’d love to be her/him one day.I bet you have as I have in the past. I have imagined working with famous celebrities and traveling around the world doing what I love, while getting paid for it. So I took the chance, flew to Dubai and the rest was history.
I thought the life of a Makeup Artist was easy.Believe me, I had to crawl my way into the industry, as years ago, makeup artists from my country were not as in demand as they are now. I had to train every single day crying while I drew eyeliners. I have lived in places not suitable for human beings and worked with impossible personalities. But in spite of all that, I kept going. I honed my skills, trying to gain as much experience as I can, learned from different styles of makeup from different people, and always having that goal of stepping up in my career. Fast-forward 15 years later, I still haven’t reached all my goals. So far, I’ve crossed out a few things off my bucket list though - such as, worked for VIPs of Dubai, princesses, celebrities, worked in media, getting my work published in magazines, attending classy events, meeting amazing people in the industry and so much more. Now because of all the experiences I’ve had, I can teach a new generation of men and women what I’ve learned. And maybe you don’t have to go through what I’ve gone through by taking our Platinum Makeup Course this Ramadan.
The Lipstick Makeup Institute is offering a 40% discount 25,000 AED to 15,000 AED for a limited time. If you take this course, I’m sure you’ll get ahead in the game really fast. Just call: 0528349964
Professional Beauty GCC (5th-6th February) Last week, The Lipstick Makeup Institute took part in the Professional Beauty GCC event at Meydan, Dubai on the 5th-6th of February. The Lipstick Makeup Institute showcased 3 different looks on stage. Two of the makeup artists were past students of The Platinum Media Course, at The Lipstick Makeup Institute. They had the chance to showoff their amazing skills, and had a blast while doing that too! At first, the makeup artists were nervous to be going on stage and talking about their work, and the looks they were to be demonstrating to the audience. Their nerves however, soon disappeared once they were speaking to Yasmin Hussain on stage, and explaining to her and everyone the meaning and process of their artistic looks. We had some variety of looks that day, from smoky eyes to colourful creative looks, and even pop art! Each different look had its own skill, talent and story behind it. We got to know the artists some more, while they explained their stories and journeys, and how they have become Pro Makeup Artists. Backstage was so much fun as usual, with the whole Lipstick team doing the makeup for all the hair looks, that were going to be showcased on stage. The hairstylists explained to the team the exact looks they wanted, that would highlight the hairstyles they were exhibiting. Then the Lipstick team went to work, and delivered a great job with the makeup. The models looked fantastic with the final looks while on stage. All in all, The Lipstick Makeup Institute Team had a wonderful time featuring their talents at the Professional Beauty GCC event, and loved taking part in such a great convention of all things Beauty.
